Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Mgmt probably think they're going to save a lot of money

I am afraid that the opposite will happen. It's not impossible, right? All this affects the overall morale in the company, which was already very low. A drop in morale affects productivity. Besides, I don't know how much outsourcing will appeal to customers either.

TIL what a WITCH company is. And also just how miserably bitter and awful some SFers are.

They won't lol, consultants are who you hire if you can't afford in-house operations due to company size. All those change requests, billable hours, and a consistent lack of institutional knowledge due to high churn in consulting (especially WITCH companies) is a biiiig premium they will pay. But I suppose that is what happens to companies that try to shift the core of their business to technology without having technical leadership.

And yeah, offshoring people who answer phones will be the opposite of appealing. There is a reason brokerages and credit card companies (Discover, Amex) use "US-based call centers" as an advertising point on their websites... people still remember how bad offshore call centers are when they were briefly popular in the 2000s

"Besides, I don't know how much outsourcing will appeal to customers either." - This is the most silly comment that I have seen. Customers dont care whether outsourced or insourced. They need service - period. Whether a quote , issuance or claim - all they need is a frictionless service. They need a person when they need and they need an app when they need. Its simple - they need an omni-channel. Whether HCL does it or ET does it.. you think they really care? This type of thinking is what ki----g the innovation in the corridors. The ET employees take pride in saying this is SF- it needs to be done in its own way - meaning take a good working product else where and baster@#@#@ and make it totally out of touch. This egoistic attitude of ET staff - never meets the way what the business needs but complicate every implementation. Outsourcing to some else will increase your ability to yell and get corrected . As long as you insource- your managers also cant question why you did this way . Like some one said ET is the DMV for SF.

Let’s see. We can believe you, knowing how inept are systems department has been for decades, or the 250+ Fortune 500 companies that utilize them now….

The fact that ANY of you think HCL will save you money or make things better is popcorn fare for a year down the road. Have you been asleep at the wheel over the last decade? India ICCs are selected for support as last resort options, not as favored partners of successful companies that are able to move toward new technology innovations. Come on now, let's call and spade a spade here.

For the person who posted "I am not in ET but another part of the company and my morale and many of my co-workers went up when we heard this announcement. Our systems are antiquated, overly complex and fragile at best. Time for some new expertise.", you must be out of your mind or you are too stupid and have been sleeping on your job. Those who lost their jobs from this event may mean SF will loose more policies as it will greatly impact the economy. While I do agree with you the systems are antiquated, overly complex and fragile. However, it is the responsibilities of management, not those who are on the bottom of the food chains as they never have a voice. SF does not have any intelligent leaderships especially in IT. None of SF executives ever being held accountable for the stupid decisions that are very costly to the company. Also, you should have some empathy for your co-workers no matter how bad they might be. I hope one day you and many of your co-workers will be in the same position to know the feelings when other said that they are happy you are being let go or forced to work for a vendor.
