Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

It's beyond me

Instead of getting rid of slackers who do nothing but spread a negative atmosphere, Intel decides to lay off some of the best employees....... Do you have any explanation why this company works against itself?

@8zku+1kEtzCQS: The govt. is already "forcing" URM's into Engineering colleges and medical schools via "affirmative action". That isn't working either. You can't "force" someone to be a good Engineer who lacks the aptitude, intellect and work ethic via a quota either in education or in the workplace.

Individuals who bring a work ethic but also a healthful skepticism aren’t the slackers. The slackers are those that reflexively shake their Intel leadership P-m Pon no matter what the circumstance. They are the ones constantly having bootlicker 1:1s in the cafeteria with people in power above them. Everyone here knows at least one person that fits this description.

I worked in the HPC space at Intel and I can tell you a lot of the diversity initiatives were aimed at getting enough URMs in place to meet government requirements for contracts. Intel does what's best for Intel and only does what it needs to do. I worked with a URM and would often just see him staring at his computer screen doing nothing and he lasted for years. I think the fundamental issue is high quotas attempting to fix the issue but the root cause is we're not doing enough to get URMs into engineering colleges.

Get woke go broke. I remember years ago Intel was committing hundreds of millions to D&I, this was around the time Ryzen was being launched and taking over with TSMC 14nm and Intel 10nm was "less than a year away".

I guess when you can't deliver anything you have to push D&I to divide and conquer and hope nobody notices your poor performance. It's the death rattle in this industry, it's far too competitive to be hiring people that way.

ARM did it, Texas did it and Intel did it.

It is interesting to hear people refer to others as slackers. I wonder what OPs peers think of them. In my 20+ years at Intel I can't think of too many slackers within the people I worked with. Someone not doing their share of the work would be quickly noticed and it would be their managers job to deal with it. My guess is that the people calling others slackers probably over value their own contributions. A common trait among the Intel arrogant and entitled employees. In reality your peers probably think of you as a cleansing feminine product and the bag it came in.

This is fake news. Managers are rated on their teams' performance and unprofitable teams nowadays can get laid off altogether. Managers are going to protect themselves by keeping highest performers. Sometimes if a whole team is laid off, you do lose good talent. Generally speaking, if an organization is cutting 10% of workforce, performance will play some factor in who gets selected. It won't always be the bottom 10%, but it's not likely the top 10% will be impacted.

The explanation is the same every time (you should know this by now): It's all about politics, favoritism (it's not what you know - it's who you know and who you bl0w!) and now "inclusion" i.e. if you are a URM - you are bullet proof. Meritocracy is long gone since BK started the diversity and inclusion BS. I thought Pat was smart enough to axe this BS, but maybe he is afraid of the PC police.
