Over 250 managers including CEO were on a call today with HR and taught how to lay off people on Wednesday 1/11/23. If you get an invite. Get your stuff off your laptop you may need before because as soon as they hang up with you- you’re gone and removed access to everything. This is unprecedented treatment and is worldwide. But starts in US.

sorry for all of you getting the ax. i was a 16 yr vet in sales and survived the 2006 pe takeover under calhoun and his GE corp te------ts but saw how it devastated the company back the, especially all the great folks in oldsmar at the time. many years later my day came as well. very few of us will go our careers without getting fired/laid off. life goes on folks.
Did anyone else have two meetings with the manager and HR? The first meeting was labelled as a notice with a RIF email and the second meeting is labelled as 2nd Consultation/Final Discussion. Can someone explain and did this happen to anyone else?
Terrible fiscal management and Human Resources management, get your money and dump trash company, private equity garbage
I saw that I had a 1:1 but not with my manager. It was a meeting with my manager's manager and an HR rep and then received my RIF's email. I guess this is it...
If called in by HR I imagine that the best move for union members would be to insist on having a union rep present?
Everyone should drop David Kenny a message that he/she were laid off with a nice good bye.
One thing that Lincoln Electric, which is a famous manufacturer of arc welding equipment, did well is instead of laying off 10% of their workforce, they had everybody take a 10% wage cut except for senior management, which took a larger cut. So instead of giving 100% of the pain to 10% of the people, they gave 100% of the people 10% of the pain.
Please tell me how a CEO can live with themselves when they make in a DAY more than what they pay people a YEAR, AND claim they 'did everything we could to avoid people cuts.'
Think I'm exaggerating?
Per public article from April 2022, Nielsen CEO got a raise to 13.8 MILLION a year. Which is more than 40k a DAY.
Figure a $15hr starting wage for US entry-level employees for the same company. That's 31.2k a YEAR.

Me and several members of my department were laid off after we were told our roles would not be affected. We were all top performers and tenured employees. It was done in a sweeping, cold and calculated manor delivered in a stoic, robotic fashion. Never seen anything like it in my 20+ years at Nielsen. They have no respect for the people left either with tons of extra work abruptly dumped on them. Good luck with Nielsen One.
Is is true in what I was reading in the previous posts that the CEO, David Kenny, got such a large bump in pay after the PE acquisition? If that's true....totally BS. I was part of the RIF and I should have started looking for a new gig back in the fall when the PE purchase was going through the motions. Been there, done that....can kick myself for not doing that based on my past experiences with PE and acquisitions.

Curious what you think the class action case would be for?

Severance packages for US employees, as far as I understand, is 2 weeks of pay at your regular rate for every year you've worked for the company (ie. you worked for 5 years, you'll stay on payroll for 10 weeks). If you were scheduled to receive an annual bonus, you'll still be getting it in March. Healthcare insurance remains active for the same period. If you made over $200K salary then it's multiplied by three weeks instead of two.
I don't work here but know many people who do.
I'm sad for them, especially those who've been here for a number of years.
Why does the CEO get a 29% raise ( over 13 million)
You guys need to make the PUBLIC aware of what's happening.
Organize yourselves, stand together. Picket them.
Anything to bring attention to what is happening.
The rich always get richer from the labors of the little guy.
F*** that. Fight back.
You get told my leaders that 'no cuts are coming' and then less than a month later, a huge impact is made to teams across my dept. I have not yet been let go, and hope to see another day... but this company is GREEDY with it's money!!! CEO should take a paycut and ensure his employees can live more than paycheck to paycheck, or without getting fired with NO heads up. Absolute garbage. With this news, after 6.5 years of dedicated and productive value I have added to this company, I am out. I'm applying elsewhere, and not feeling like I'm always on the chopping block while maintaining above average and minimum expectations. GoodBYE Nielsen!
how are you supposed to get work done, if they're keeping you on until the 31st? What's the incentive to continue to deliver work?

"Where are you getting these numbers and info from? I was under the impression that Nielsen has 40k+ employees globally.
In case you do have a reliable source, could you comment on whether US layoffs will continue? Haven't really seen any new layoffs after 1pm yesterday."
Response:
You are greaty misinformed. Nielsen had over 40k employees BEFORE the split over a year ago when NielsenIQ was spun off. The layoffs will continue around the globe in phases that will continue through end of Feb. Each part of world has its own layoff window. The bulk of the US and Asia layoffs are complete. The rest of the world will continue through end of Feb
Nielsen employed 15,000 people, including 1,000 part-time employees, as of December 31, 2021, according to a SEC filing. But it's unclear how many employees were hired last year.
There was 40k but before it was split, now is around 16-17k
I was let go yesterday. I received a 1:1 meeting invite from my director on Tuesday. I thought it was odd. Then, I read the David Kenny letter and knew exactly what that meeting was for. I joined the meeting, my director joined the meeting and after we had said hello, HR pops into the meeting out of nowhere. I was in IT based out of Oldsmar. Offices had been closing / reducing floor space for over a year due to many people working from home. Best of luck to everyone who is now job hunting.

PTOC finance got nailed yesterday. They are keeping all finance on until January 31st. They say for transition but it might be for rehire opportunities.
any information on sites outside the US?
I was laid off. Worked as manager in Gracenote, music content. 8 years in the company. Only know of one more person in Gracenote music being laid off, so far. They are being very secretive about who and how many are being affected by this sudden measure.
This shithole company has been falling apart pretty much since David Kenny joined 4 years ago. First, the digital vs non-digital split. Then the sale and privatization. Then the splitting into multiple P&L centers. Next, the sale of each individual P&L center to highest bidder, I suppose. All of these decomposition cycles are being accompanied by layoffs, travel bans, self-destructive operational savings and hiring freezes - all to make profitabily margins look pretty. Those of you who still work in this company, please bear in mind that this company has been DEAD for a few years now, and we are just part of its decomposing body.
Some make it look like severance pay is amazing. With trying times and economy you will go through it fast! And, health insurance is only for 30 more days! Sad to see a Company who so many work for not value or care for their employees.
You aren't given time to say goodbye to Co-Workers. As soon as your meeting with HR ends you are cut off. If your meeting is set with Manager and HR call in sick just to bug them lol
Funny when, layoff hits home people worry and panic. Did all of you commenting on here forgot how Nielsen laid off over 3,000 world wide during Covid? Do you know, how difficult it was to be laid off right at the start of a pandemic? Those who stayed until now were Blessed. Some of us are still trying to recover and find our way!
I was let go today in Product. Same as the rest. As soon as I got off the phone with HR my access to everything was cut off.
Has any field or marketing reps been let go? What areas if so? We are all worried, we haven’t heard anything from our manager about what’s going on.
I am a manager. No managers were consulted for the layoffs. Only department leaders. Yet they told us to not appear we disagree with the decision by questioning the HR person and challenging the decision or expressing disappointment in the decision. Kinda hard to do when we were never involved. So no, I do not agree with the decision forced on me. What should have happened is this, "We need you to eliminate N number of headcount from your team to meet business goals. Please work with so and so". How are department leaders supposed to know who shuold go when they are so far removed? Also, why not just cut the bottom 5% or 10% of performers? Why are good performers getting cut? Also, why not cut all the TCS contractors?
Same here got hit and my manager had no input.
When will phase 2 be?
Anyone know criteria for picking who to lay off
2022 aip bonus will still be provided when time comes
Hearing rumors of a phase 2 of layoffs… anyone else hear this or have any details?
Someone still had access for almost an hour? Wow. I was a Team Leader and was not even able to say goodbye to my team, who worked very hard for me. I tried to just type a "Bye" on Slack, but while still in the meeting someone removed me from my own team chat. I tried to log back on within 15 mins to get a tel no re: Health Insurance case I started, was already locked out of email and vpn.
I was the picture of professionalism in that meeting and did not get treated with any dignity in that regard. I found out from my team, they hadn't even pulled them into a meeting to inform them... still over an hour later.
I was laid off today. I’m not sure how widespread the impact was as no other information was provided :(
