Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Not challenged enough and not learning anything new

I've been here for three years and I'm debating whether to leave already, because I feel that I'm stagnating. Given that I am not progressing, nor does this job offer me anything new to learn, I think there is no other solution but to look for new opportunities elsewhere? I think the feeling of stagnation is not alien to many here at Seagate.

get another degree online, while working. let Seagate assist, pay for it.

I got this way an MBA after 5 years and enjoyed work plus studies.

Definitely talk to your manager and director first. They may surprise you.

If young and mobile, DEFINATELY MOVE ON. You will also probably get a nice instant raise by doing so. Go somewhere to learn something new and not stagnate. When I was in my 20's I jumped companies every 2-3 years and had 5 or 6 before landing at STX. Then changed jobs internally at STX 3-4 more times internal until early 30's. Each time moving up into a new area where I could learn new things and not stagnate. I'm now one of the old guys and less flexible. But I still got skills.

upward mobility is limited as there’s a lot of 50+ engineers with decades in this industry trying to make to the end of the careers, so flip your experience and move forward

Seagate is a company, for people planning to retire in the next 3-5 years. Look around and you will see that most engineers are 50+
For youngsters - this is a great company to work for about 2-5 years -- learn as much as possible and then leave. There will be no growth for young engineers..
Do not expect promotions or huge raises .. Use Your time in Seagate to embellish your resume and update your technical knowledge. If ur job is not helping you to learn anything -- leave before you are useless in the outside job market. You will definitely stagnate there
