Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

How to avoid the next one

Add a quarterly reminder on your phone starting Feb 9 (~ VCIP townhall) to ask your leader how opex per boe has changed since Jan 1 2026 and what are we doing about it. We cannot stop asking this ever. Do not let them surprise you in a few years that costs are up another 20%. Hold them accountable.

If you see cost creep around you, just play it cool and write to your VP. They'll like it. Skip middle management. They'll learn.

CEP if you are reading this you need to create an anonymous cost creep hotline.

With any luck, we can avoid the next one. 10% cuts are large, 25% is derilection of duty and utter mismanagement, with consequences only for the rest of us.

Don't just watch it happen to you. The food on your family's table depends on it. Good luck. Add that phone reminder

@er their key word is 'quarterly' reminder. No end date, same question every time

I will call out the OP for bad advice. Nobody will know that number until the books close for Q1 in April.
I do like your CEP hotline idea. If we can report ethics violations, we can also report the groups who like to treat themselves to steaks to celebrate mediocre accomplishments.

@ar absolutely true. I saw people who hadn't received promotions at a fast rate survive several rounds, only to be let go within a year or two of receiving one. It was essentially a consolation prize. BE WARY if after years of apparent apathy, suddenly your work is recognized and you pull a promotion!

Do not accept a promotion. That puts a bullseye on your back. Has anyone stopped to realize the majority of RIG are higher grade middle aged people with zero negative performance issues?

@OP What departments do these apply to? For those of us who don't have access no the numbers, how do we go about acquiring that?

Also, if your supervisor is friends with the people above, and you complain, wouldn't that put a target on your back?

People have always advised to just keep your head down, once you speak up, you become a target
