They neeed to cut north platte because of all the entitled brats that live there. Heads are so big that I’m amazed they fit through the front door.

@k9 I hear that Hinkle is the last shop
out there in the pnw, so I don’t know about leasing it to the Canadians. UP needs a shop somewhere, they just don’t want their employees. I do believe that the ultimate goal is to contract all mechanical out to shed the responsibility and commitment. UP lacks leadership that can run a shop properly so the natural thing to do is let a third party control that aspect of the business, just like they’re doing with local service in the tey side.

I posted a few weeks early about the one in Texas and was promptly called every name in the book by someone that was upset by the “false information”. If I hear anything though, I will share it but nothing so far. The unions don’t seem to share any info to the crafts and someone has to warn people. I would definitely think twice about making any major financial commitments unless you can afford it in case your job goes south, at least until we turn the page on the Vena era. My director has a huge head (ego) and loves to brag about things he knows so we typically hear early.

I would look to see if you can find where the shop locations and yards are for the NS. That should give anyone with some common sense of where the next layoffs and closures will be. If the merger happens, any cluster of shops and yards between the two lines will be consolidated into one. Any yard not performing to the Vena standards will be closed and jobs will be lost. That's why I don't believe Vena is being genuine in the "jobs for life" agreements. I'm sorry but Vena can't be trusted at his word! He's going to start layoffs and facility closures if the merger starts to take place. The jobs agreements is nothing more than to get people to calm down and drop their guard. Once you drop you guard, you're done and all he's doing is waiting for that moment to occur.

December or January. That may go 15% to 20%. I was hoping they get it over with in December. The sooner the better for everyone. I think they are going to go big in the mid east due to the fact that it is close to the NS location. I don’t think they want a cluster of people from UP and NS all in close proximity from each other.

This will be interesting to see how many more locations go skeleton crew. One thing is for certain, mass layoffs happened before the SP merger and I’m sure mass layoffs will happen again before the NS merger. It was stated by someone the other day that there is not enough business this last quarter and more than likely will follow into next year.
