Store manager plays favorite amongst managers. Promoting inexperienced managers to run departments such as beauty. Seems like the beauty department in our store is being run by the store manager herself. The pressure is on as regional and district are starting to notice the beauty manager isn't even fit to run Backstage. It's only a matter of time.

You will make an AMAZING people leader for cosmetics/fragrances - store managers nowadays haven’t a clue how successful this business should be to their overall store - and placing these young people with no experience in to the role of a cosmetic manager (or whatever they’re called now) is pure insanity. At such a young age, dealing with cosmetic associates that are tough to manage, a multitude of partnerships with AE’s, launches, goals and basic business is a recipe for disaster. But then again, the store manager sitting in their comfy office has their managers in check on theatro. Haha, drive that business folks - or hand it over to the other retailers customers shop at.

Beauty is often the largest department in the store, and the most complex. Store managers always have a close eye and need to be more hands on in that area. Not surprising. But agree with the poster that speaks about filtering out good talent. Company has done this for years. Downgrading overall talent and favoring younger leaders. Will see this impact going forward as Macy’s tries to snap back.
The lack of experienced, motivated and well trained cosmetic managers was dissolved by Macys years ago - all the experienced ones that gave a cr-p and knew how to run the business were pushed out the door. Now you have managers that just don’t care and don’t know a thing about beauty or the people can make them successful. Truly a shame.
