UAW Local 862 helps workers affected by looming Ford layoffs

More than 2,000 workers will soon be temporarily laid off at the Ford Assembly Plant in Louisville, a move expected to last about 10 months. During that time, the facility will undergo major changes as it transitions to building electric vehicles.

Is anyone else a little bit surprised they got the governor on board with this? EV seems like a bad bet.

Not a bad situation for the workers. They will get 85% of their pay and not have to lift a finger. Since its a guaranteed long stretch, they will pick up another gig and then get paid for that too. In the end they'll end up making more than they otherwise would have.

You know there was a guy running for president that talked about this. Does the UAW even think?

It's about stability in the manufacturing industry.

This is normal for a model changeover. However, in this case, they will do the changeover and no one will buy the new product. Then Ford will declare that they can’t make money in the small EV SUV market and will pull out of that market and close the plant.

These workers are getting 85% pay to stay home, that the he-l are they worry about?

Ford should fired them all and pay nothing if you don't need them anymore.

No worries. It's only temporary for now.

That's great news. No work, then the company don't need the workers.

I seriously doubt the plant will ever reopen. Listen to the news about EVs
