Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

I don't care if I'm laid off

Once this is over, if I'm still here, my main task will be finding something else. Most of my energy will be devoted to that. Being one of the highest performers on my team for years and not knowing if I'm safe made me see how pointless it is to stay here. I'm so done with this place.

@OP I feel the same way. I was going to find something different anyway. But luckily for me I got laid off this morning. Good riddance COP su-ks they ruined a good company (concho). They will regret these decisions in the future when we all go to the service company's and hit them where it hurts.

I found myself wanting to be laid off so I EOId. I can’t wait to not come here any more. I enjoyed my job up until this past year. There is someone on my team that drives me mad, treating me like her secretary, micromanaging what I do and we are peers! My supervisor loves her and is friends with her outside of work so I feel like I can’t say anything. The one time I said something to my peer she accused me of being confrontational. I can’t wait to not deal with her anymore. I am so done.

I will be very upset if you get laid off.
Anyone who self identifies as the highest performer is exactly the kind of person I love to be around.
I also respect that you did nothing to find another opportunity until after you get the news. That is exactly how a high performer shows what they are made of.

OP, you should know they can’t tell people their status ahead of lay-off day. They would get their as--s sued for doing that. You are right it is very stressful not knowing because even people who think they are safe get the axe. Hang in there. Maybe great things are in your future if you stay.

For me it’s going to come down to who’s left standing . I’m not talking about corporate leadership or any of that cr-p. If they keep the id--ts managers in my department and I’m still left to deal with their sh-t after this … I’m out . Surely after spending all this money they can figure out who’s a giant waste of resources and let them go .

@a2 Because there are lots of "tough" talkers and keyboard fighters in IOL.

In reality, most IOL employees are/were good high performing people when hired. Over the years, they focused too much on "leadership" (vs actual hands-on technical skills) - just because that's how EADS/PDS work. Now they will realize those "leadership" skills are not as valuable as they think, esp. given most of those "leaders" did not carry "management" titles at all.

Then why haven't you been looking for the past year? Why didn't you submit an EOI? Why take a job in place of someone who wants to be here but gets laid off anyway?
