@g6 He is totally incompetent.

Ask him about the choice he made on his pension.

@g6 IA? What does that stand for?

The fact is, it doesn’t matter how competent you are, how loyal you are, how hardworking you are, how value-minded are. What matters is: are you competent at playing the incompetent politics?

The current “leader of IA” is an incompetent master of this game.

People have been shaking their heads for years wrt finance leadership...

There is a solution to all of this. Don’t overhire and only hire the best. Best in all regards like knowing what you are doing technically, communicating well, and being able to do a job independently. Too often employees are hired just to fill a slot. If they are poor performers they are a real drag on the organization until you can show them the door in a minimum of two years. The exception is if they are fired for cause then it is easier.

I get a kick out of the leaders who remain safe, year after year, while their incompetence in staffing results in repeated rounds of human suffering.

It takes a bizarre kind of person NOT to see their role in this.

Why not get rid of these "leaders" and focus on leaders who can actually "right size" an organization?

The fact of the matter is that too few of these leaders have put in the effort required to understand the work and determine what is needed to get it done efficiently.

@av
You are so full of it. There are a lot of great technical people who add value and are let go not because of lack of skills or accomplishment. They just don’t blow their ho-n like they should or play the game like others who are less qualified. I can see that you are likely a ho-n blower. Good for you. Many people learn this eventually after getting sc--wed by corporations.

@av open your eyes. Layoffs everywhere going on in every industry.

@av I disagree. O&G industry offers excellent career opportunities and pay/benefits. You just have to realize it goes thru business cycles with layoffs. You should never let your guard down and always ensure you are adding critical value that ensures your survival when layoffs come. Continue to add to your skill set that adds value to the company. I have seen too many folks that coast in their careers and these are the folks typically that get let go.

It’s going to be rough but maybe kids in college will read the room and stop choosing oil and gas as a viable career option with this much consolidation in the industry happening.
