So a few ways I have seen this go down in the past 20 years.
1st…. They were closing the location, so everyone who had no “write ups” were given 30 days to find a job within the company, if not you had to sign your severance by a certain day and leave the company. Back then it was great, they even offered you relocation assistance if you found a job within the company and it was over 100 miles from your current location! It didn’t matter what job, it was just Verizon wanting to keep you and help you in your situation.
I have also seen it where the employees are notified that they are no longer to work for the next 30 days, but are still on the payroll. They are to use that time to find a job within Verizon or outside of Verizon. But effective immediately they were no longer to work in their current role. By a certain date they had to have signed the severance package or secured a new position within the company.
You are told when your last day to work will be. You are advised that you will continue to work doing your job but you will need to create a document that outlines what you do and how you do it. This will be used to train your replacement if your position is out sourced or pass to pass it on to the person being left who will now do their job and yours. Still given the option to find a job within Verizon in a certain time frame.
The only time in all of the situations that I have had team members affected and they were not offered to find another position within the company was if they had some type of an hr incident on their current record…. Examples of attendance issues, final warnings for performance, code of conduct violations etc…. Those people were just advised here is your package…. Goodbye!
Good luck everyone! I feel like we are all going to need all the luck we can get. This is rumored to be very large numbers that we have never seen before.
