Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Bill Ford-hire/not-hire?

If Bill Ford was not part of the Ford family, would he be hired in a leadership role at Ford by the Ford family?

@Gslq+1k9XJ7uz yep, it's coming. Had an LL4 tell me late last year that they layoffs in 2023 will dwarf the layoffs in 2022. And that no one is safe. So if you think "I'm in model e" or "I'm in Ford Pro", good luck with that. Some areas will be hurt harder than others, but no area will be exempt.

Today during the Town Hall I am hearing Engineers are likely going to get cut.

@2kcw+1k9XJ7uz "Bill Ford had sense enough to know he was in over his head"

No, he wasn't. The only thing that forced Bill to go out and hire Mullaly was his own family, threatening to dump the preferred stock in the public market. Since then, Bill had quadrupled the amount of preferred shares he owns. I am guessing to try to avoid the same threat again from his family.

BTW, he is still over his head.

In 2006 Ford lost $13 billion - biggest loss in company history. Bill Ford had sense enough to know he was in over his head, and so he recruited Alan Mulally from Boeing. BTW, when Mulally was at Boeing, he laid off 50 percent of Boeing's workforce.

The road to he-l is paved with good intentions. Bill's intentions are not well-meaning, they are self-serving. This is a man that lives in a sprawling mansion in a private area in northern Ann Arbor, while preaching that the environment needs to be preserved. He lives secluded while preaching that inclusion for all is mandatory. He funnels tons of money to Progress Michigan through The Ford Foundation. And then allows employees that have been here 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 years to be shown the door and treated like exiles. He continues to drive a company that he didn't build, and that he's done nothing (short of hiring Mulally) to sustain, to the far-left as it forces EVs down the throats of the American car buying public, promising an all EV future that is neither warranted nor wanted.

Yes he has self-serving, Ivy League political intentions. But I would hardly call them good.

I think Bill means well. I also think its pretty much impossible to be an effective senior leader without having to experience true adversity in your career. That's what all the Ford family members in the business lack...true adversity on their way up the ladder. They do a glorified tour throughout all the parts of the business...but what happens if they fail or are ineffective? They get promoted! No one is going to offer them honest feedback unless they want to get transferred to the factory floor in Brazil. No, you just wait until Billy, Henry or Elena's little tour of your area is done and then go back to business. It's not until they are at or near the top of the house that they are truly challenged, and those challenges are often overwhelming...even for the most seasoned and competent executives.

@OP. It is not the hypothetical question "what if ..." what matters, but the "reality we face" question: Why would someone, born with with a silver spoon up their rear, is so interested in running a company as big and complex as FMC?

Many of those "trust fund babies" have access to moneys large enough they don't need to work, and they enjoy their lives partying, doing dr-gs, traveling or whatever they want. So why not Billy? I believe he has a mental complex, being 4th generation spoiled brat, of proving himself better than Old Henry. Of course, Old henry being a self made man, you'd think Billy would start from scratch, right? And maybe he did and failed. Therefore, he decided to prove his worth (which as we know he is worth NOTHING) by "taking care" of the family's largest heirloom.

Now, a "regular" spoiled brat would listen to advisors, and maybe try not to rock the boat too much. However, since Billy in his own mind, has a lot to prove to himself, he is not only rocking the boat, but capsizing it as well. And that's exactly why we are suffering as employees, and why the company is going down.

A piece of advice, Billy. If you are going to throw a fortune away, at least blow it in Las Vegas. That way you may have fun doing it.

Was there some press release for Michigan Central Station that I was not aware of?

The plan was and still is for MCS to be our mobility hub. Anything said otherwise is misinformation.

That would be a BIG NO. Trust fund baby. Look at items like the Train station that were anyone outside of a Ford you would have been shown the door a long time ago. The Free Press & Wall Street give this guy a pass. He along with the rest of the senior team NEED TO GO.

Of course not. There isn't a single Ford family member in the history of the company not named Henry Ford who would have made their way to the executive level without their name....not to mention most of them graduated from elite institutions only because mommy and daddy stroked a big check. The entire rotation plan for the family members is a joke. Do you know anyone else who got promoted to the director level with a few years of experience and a teaching degree???
