@dz it was 3 months of severance from IBM for over 20 years of service for layoffs done in 2024. IBM is very cheap, particularity when it comes to jettisoning employees.
And meanwhile, as the RAs go down, Alvind and Krabanaugh are enjoying a nice round of drinks on the deckchairs of the IBM Titanic. Alvind will no doubt be asking for his golden handshake in addition to his undeserved and oversized bonus in early 2026.
Well it happened. Band 9 US cloud. Big bad blue spinning the corporate buzzwords…. Oh well. Here’s to brighter days ahead.

I had a call with my Manager at 9:30 AM, Tuesday, 11/4/25, and told that my last date is Dec 4. I'm Band 9. I worked for 6 years and have a good rare skill sets, but that doesn't matter to IBM, what mattered is my band and pay. I should have not joined IBM at first place.

@c5 at least not in my org. FLM in Canada, i got pinged over the weekend about a “must attend call” on Monday (they ended being 2 calls). I went over the 2 calls without knowing who or how many of my reports were impacted. I talked with other 3 FLMs, and they were in the same situation. Names were shared around 5 pm. The (long) list makes no sense, as it includes some of my best reports . The official emails started to arrive at 1 am. IBM is incompetent even to let go ppl.

Do you mean that a lot of Joann Wright's talentless, overpaid and underworked bootlickers are being shown the door ? What a surprise. IBM F&O is out of date and out of touch. AI reality is catching up fast. Krabanaugh and Wright need to be shown the door also.

US Band 10 F&O notified today. More than half my team will be notified tomorrow - all super stars. Sad for them and everyone else impacted but I am so excited about leaving toxic IBM behind and starting a new chapter in my life! 🎉

For those of you who got the call for a meeting tomorrow, If the ax does fall, you will actually be better for your mental health in the long run. I spent 18 years at IBM. Went through many of these. I finally left right before last year’s big cut in October. The years of stress., lies, understaffing, being treated like a number, not a human , really do affect your state of mind. Good luck to you all..

@aa - Save the pitch. Life isn't about work. Life is about family and spending time together. I've learned that after 50+ years... There was a large survey done of people over 80 and their regrets... Not one wished they worked more or had more success at making widgets. They wish for more time spent with people and more time spent experiencing things with family (Travel etc...) I had times in my work in my 20's/30s where i was so obsessed with what i was doing and how amazing i thought it would be and thought so highly of myself and what i was doing. I learned later all that is is a mirage. Its not real and its not what you really want out of life.
Many times these pitches like yours come from folks who haven't lived on the other side and don't have the connection to friends/family/kids/grandkids that others do/feel and they try to sell us on their version of success.
Success at career/work is nothing like a grandkid excited from making their first goal, or riding a roller coaster for the first time or a 20 year anniversary on the deck of a cruise ship.
There can only be so many folks at the top of capitalism and many of us work hard and just want a balanced life(not too much and not too little). I've made a allot of money before and now just want balance. But one thing is for sure... These executives at the top making 100x more than their average worker all sling the same stuff... but the truth is the only folks believing this are kids in their young twenties that don't know any better, and buy into their slogans and their false claims of loyalty and "building something together".
