Your experience and education are of no value here. All you are is an employee ID# and a salary on someone's spread sheet.
When mgt feels they can hire someone cheaper you get laid off. It is just about dollars.

@OP Just laid off??? How about terminated! The ugly word is really fired! After 10+ yrs of service they will find any little thing to fire your a**. Especially if you’re in your 60’s they will not pay a severance package. They will hire new people for cheaper and how do I know cause I’ve seen it very sad. How am I going to get another job? The new company asks you why you left Collins? Oh sir you see they fired me? Well forget it you think they will hire you? NO! Terrible company!
