Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

Cengage has become the joke of the industry

Cengage has gone so far down hill in my 15 years with the company. I used to feel like they actually cared about their employees. I am no longer proud to work here. Why are we not paying a livable wage? Why are we expecting so much out of people who make equal to someone making your fast food order?
What happened to company picnics and showing appreciation to your employees during the busiest time of year? WHY ARE ELEVATE POINTS SO HARD TO GET??? Then when you do get some the amount is just offensive. Cengage eliminated some very important roles and everyone left after is expected to just stay positive and figure it out. What happened to white glove service? Why is there no support or true leadership for the employees? PAY US MORE. stop eliminating roles just to bring people back with a new title and less pay. The customer support over seas is not working either. Bring the jobs back to the US. This company is just getting worse and worse by the day.

Terrible industry to be in for last 15 years. Plus terrible company management. Advice: leave.

Move to NYC! The new mayor says busses will be free and has promised affordable rent! Oh. You also get govt run grocery stores with two week old produce!

We’re the new Pearson in publishing. Everyone knows we’re on a path of self- destruction. At one point there was at least some pride to be a part of Cengage but now it’s just plain embarrassing.

Grewtings,

You raise some interesting points. Cengage needs to invest more in AI and technology tools that will enable a leaner organization to restore the brand's luster.

The cost savings realized by streamlining the company through strategic realignment will help the organization safely navigate the headwinds caused by the current administration.

When I was an AE, I was always asked why we were so behind our competitors (especially McGraw) with product updates. It was hard to sell on campus when MGH had already been there with a better product. We were told to frame it as our team spending more time to get it right, but even with saying that when we launched the Student Assistant - it was never enough to get them to switch or to even stay with us. We’re not beating competition for a reason - Cengage just cannot keep up. Creative marketing and positioning doesn’t help us be successful or take share. Campaign kickoffs are full of motivational tactics but have begun to fall on more and more deaf ears. I’m sure the ES will be the same.

Moved on to a new place outside of publishing - it’s been an adjustment but glad to no longer be part of Cengage. It used to be great, but not anymore - especially over the last two years.
