I'd love to know how the heck we get any leaner out here in the CO's. Can't get the most basic stuff needed for years, and covering an unrealistically large geographical area ALONE when on OT. My suggestion is to start the "leaner" process with the redundancies up at the top, Dan!

Any testing in the future will be done from overseas or down south. Let's hope we don't get what happened to Cablevision after the Altice takeover. Many jobs offshored.
One Tester sitting at a desk can cover a much larger area than a COT, we need all these people.
It’s impossible to get a COT when you need one. I know you don’t need one in every building, but most of the CO’s are ghost towns.
As a COT I think they’re most likely to cut the testers/noc people. Why do we need someone sitting at a desk all day running automated tests we can run ourselves? Following troubleshooting flowcharts we can do ourselves? They need us because we are physically present, they don’t need people to remotely test light levels for us.
@aq careful buddy or they’ll bring back Frame Attendant
@af "unless there is an issue" uh, which happens to be EVERY SINGLE DAY. Or if you need to wire and equip new circuits, or do routines that keep your equipment/building running properly ...... which is EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Not during business hours

I dont know what region youre in but in the North East we cannot do anything to any type of equipment that involves the Network. This is due to Texas as well as NY where techs worked on live equipment causing large outages.
We cannot even install new fiber for things that are not even live. This is on the VZW side
My team in Verizon is so thinly staffed already… but I do have about 3 more superiors that only make decks to talk to other execs, so let’s cut some band 3, 4 and 5s to start.
I think it's more about having more focus, prioritization, and discipline. Not everything is a priority, and Verizon has consistently not prioritized and aligned across groups to ensure everyone is working toward one goal.
The other thing that SHOULD happen: Product Management needs to have shared metrics AND own the entire experience of their products, not just the launch. They need guardrail metrics and STRONG accountability measures. That would cut a LOT of fat out of the business.
@ah bro relax with the acronyms
These penny pinchers cut everything theres nothing left. We go to work to fail
COT’s sit around and do absolutely nothing for years and then complain that they have to “cover” 2 or 3 buildings and maybe have to do a little work. Union bloat
Yeah. We're in a city with several VZ sites, OSP, CPE, and now FWA. We cover everything as needed and have been streched thin for years. Some cities only have one tech so they not only take care of all of the work, but are on-call full-time unless they're out on VC. In which case a tech from a city at least a hundred miles away has to take the callout. Our situation is NOT unique. There's lean, and then there's understaffed and working 6 days a week, 50 to 60 hours per week, all while being told to reduce OT. If we loose even one tech, something's gotta give.

@ab I'd love to know where this is because I'm covering 4 buildings by myself on a regular weekday. You probably made it up.
Verizon has already cut 80k jobs since Hans was implemented - I too wonder how much further can they go without an even further brain drain. It’s so hard to get things implemented since VSP
COs are part of the problems with union bloated expenses .....no need to have someone at a CO....heck....in today's network environment NG networks are touch less...you go in when there is a real issue...I have traveled a lot and in all cases seeing more than 3 techs seating at hiding cubicles doing nothing but browsing the web all day long.
Thats just it you dont need someone in the CO unless there is an issue same goes for switches
