Thread regarding Solventum layoffs

Understaffed teams and more layoffs

With so many layoffs without reason or replacements- none of these roles are actually “useless” they’re needed - the existing employees keep picking up the slack. It feels like the boiling a frog story, we just have gotten too used to doing more and more work for less and less pay. The workers have no say at all while they know the actual work being done and making the CEO money. Making the company more money to keep adding unnecessary C-suite executives with millions of dollars in pay. Why don’t we unionize? We have gotten too used to the lay offs of important workers without a real reason every Christmas. Multiple layoffs this year, we have gotten too used to this. The only “restructuring” needed is cutting the unnecessary executives and their made up roles. CEO has the personality that he’s an actor playing a CEO. These are people’s livelihoods he is playing with while getting richer than ever before.

@np If I mention the function, they will know who I am.

Let's just say that our responsibilities were not covered by any other function. As a result, I believe that we will keep losing contracts with government hospitals as time goes by.

@bd Hanson is probably looking at this too. Nobody who's still employed wants to answer that.

@d8 I have been laid off in January 2025 and they did give me those days to revoke my signature on the agreement not to sue them. Severance was paid only after that term expired.

Don't pick up the work that is left behind because of this redundancy. I'm glad we didn't have to as they eliminated everyone in our function. Today, the MedSurg business is floundering in my country.

@d8 I feel like we are going to see this every October. Thanks for the advice.

What are all the groups that have been affected so far? Any idea what areas will be affected in December and January?

The only lesson Bryan (and his puppet master Nelson Peltz) understand is quiet quitting. If you pick up work left behind by your colleagues who were unjustly fired, then they will keep playing the game until one day it's you.

If productivity suffers, then Bryan's hair may just fall out again like the five year old photos of him show a receding hairline and facial aging. Even Botox won't work any more.

Nellie will get irritated by the stock price floundering and will find another puppet while Bryan rides off into the sunset with a 50 million golden parachute.

@OP Was reading about employee protections today. Did Solventum follow these rules? Especially for those over 40? Specifically that last line.

Examine the pink slip. Employers cannot require you to sign exit paperwork before being allowed to leave, or withhold pay for not signing. So take time to review the terms and maybe, even negotiate items like severance, health insurance, stock options, or placement services to get another job. All workers have protections, with those over 40 having additional safeguards under the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA). To release the company from age discrimination claims, older workers must be given at least 21 days to consider the offer and 7 days to revoke their signature in an individual lay-off, among other provisions. For a group lay-off, the employee must be given 45 days to consider the severance agreement.

My team of software engineers was double digits in size and slightly over half were let go. Some layoffs were expected, but we never imagined it would be like this. Much of our work isn't typical and takes years of hands on experience to be able to do effectively. Not all of the remaining engineers have the knowledge to be able to work on all of the products we are responsible for either. It's not a good situation for anyone involved here whether you were let go or whether you still have a job, but many more times the work than before. I have no clue what Solventum's plan is for our set of products. Clearly we are no longer an important part of the company's future though. I fear it's only a matter of time before more sacrifices have to be made.
