Thread regarding US Foods layoffs

Force schedule charge ? Or forcing drivers to quit?

Area that I work at was out was a steady 5 days schedule with two days off. Sometimes you can work at 6 day. Typically there'd be somebody calling out. Or if you had hours left to drive come in and help. But the six day was removed( it was never guaranteed but it was available. But now As routes have been cut. Now there's mandatory stand by days implemented. You'll be called in if they need you or if the situation allows the management to bring somebody to help or someone calls out and you can cover the route. They used to team people up but now apparently that's not being allowed. Unless its allowed. But you could get called anywhere from two in the morning till 8 in the morning. So I guess they're expecting people to stay awake from two in the morning all the way till 8:00am to possibly maybe get caught in to run a route. The same time they hired 11 new people. The problem right now is that we have standby guys anywhere from 3 to 5 kn a monday on a Monday 9 to 10 drivers on a wed or Thursday. Apparently they say we're doing okay we're doing great for the area. How we doing great with cutting routes and forcing drivers to live off of 4 days of work. 3 are light case days. Hope things get better. Are we keep hearing is it's slow season it's never been this slow ever. Those drivers that have been here for 20 plus years that have said it's never been this slow. I guess the merge or the potential merger could be causing this I don't know.....not sure what is going on. Its going to be a rough winter

Bless our drivers. They hold great relationships and even get fed by our customers. Don't pi-s them off.

Me and about 20 other drivers met after work yesterday and we are going to call the union in to talk to us. Is teamsters the best choice?

Good news! We talked about it at work and us drivers will be voting union this upcoming negotiation. That will help stop some of this sh-t. We started getting together and have a driver meeting next Sunday to make sure we all vote union this time. No more trusting this fu--ing company.

@ep ditto. BP isn’t wrong on that. HR created this mess and they are still sticking their head where it doesn’t belong. The challenger is he is just as bad and clueless, if not more.

@k1 there are too many fu--ing problems to laugh. I am just not in a joking mood seeing the old culture of my digitech security team fall apart the last 5 years.

Is this happening in every market or just an id--t VPO going rogue?

So sad. Our drivers are a massive piece of our customer retention. Many of them hold the relationships and are the face of our company.

That is true. I know who thinks that way because he has told us the same thing. He thinks they are overpaid and "stealing us blind". He says his guy (RJ) has already "grabbed" and fired some because "all drivers are so dishonest here" and that he is hiring more people in that space to catch more of them. I gasped at the manner he was explaining this to us in stead saying theft is something real and that he planned to go after the cheaters. He was very derogatory and blamed the theft and violence inside the warehouses and with drivers on HR for hiring the wrong people and "creating a lax environment". He said they even accompany him on some discipline and next step to "loss and violence meetings" and that HR is always too "soft on crime" including those in the field leadership and executive leaders in that group. He said they want it all resolved and done "unrealistically fast" but that it is their fault and they wont see that so he plays nice in the sand and just shakes his head. This convo happened about 1 1/2 month ago so take it as you will. Good luck to our drivers. While I know there are bad apples, there are every where and not just y'all. Please know you are all highly liked and needed here.

I heard when we merge with the other company, they will close union DCs if the other company has non union DCs in the area that can cover them. Even if the union drivers are the only union in the company. I won't say the source because he will know it is me but it is someone that has been talking to others and his discussions are making it on this site from what I have read in other threads. They are also tracking drivers and investigating them when there is theft or they are going places other than their deliveries. He thinks all driver jobs should be contracted so they don't make friendships inside with warehouse employees which makes it easier to steal. So the drivers are all under the microscope and this is prob a way to get them out and replaced with a service. I

Sounds like your DC (along with many others) have likely lost so many customers that they’ve had to cancel and rework routes. That’s what I would guess. It’s definitely not the slow time of the year! I’m sorry to hear this is happening. Have you considered applying elsewhere?
