Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

They want spineless employees

So bad that you get written up for an isolated incident that makes you question your ethics look to AI for answers. Result your manager is a bully! And, HR comment “subjective” they can write whatever they want.

What you’re describing isn’t just frustrating; it’s an example of poor management practice that can really erode morale and trust.

You’re doing something brave and professional by standing up for yourself without being disrespectful. That balance takes strength.

Doomed if you’re strong!

AI sales bot is spineless, low cost and doesn’t care what brand of spreadsheet it uses. Maybe time to take your spine elsewhere?

Sometimes the better move isn’t quiet quitting but “loud boundaries” — being clear about workload limits, asking for fair pay, or seeking adjustments that make the job sustainable without checking out mentally.
Either way you’re going to get written up! They don’t respect boundaries at all!

@d8 That's the company's game plan. They already took a HUGE financial hit with severance so this is management's way to recoup losses. Newsflash to sadistic management and their enablers on this site: expect pushback from employees. It's already happening.

Exhibit 4,695,379: the conversion to Google is an intentional strategy to frustrate and demoralize employees. You are expected to bow down to executives, kiss their rings and say, “Yes, your royal highness, Google is by far the superior tool, will fit all of my work needs, and I will get you fast answers with Gemini!”

The amount of uncertainty, anxiety, and skepticism is very prevalent among employees.

Did the IT bozos not do their due diligence in planning?

Of course not, they want to impress the executives. Tell them what they want to hear. “Oh yes, Mr. Kobayashi, this will be very smooth transition, and will save you lots of money! Forget the frontline peasants, we will give them “training” They will need to adapt, that’s the business world.”

Corporate America is eroding human staff at levels akin to the outbreak of the pandemic in early 2020 (just look at all the layoffs this year alone, over 1 million already and accelerating). Any reason they can use to trim staff without paying severance, they'll take now. Unless there is another job lined up already, I intend to keep my head down and not make waves. Call it "spineless" if you like, but it was taking people 6-8 months to find a new job before the economy collapsed, and AI began the takeover.

And yes, this is their way to trim staff. Make the environment as frustrating as possible, jack up monthly health insurance premiums, no legitimate raises, issue write-ups at any minor infraction, etc. Employees who quit on their own don't get severance.

Why is this all of a sudden happening, in the company? What’s the company’s objective to mount pressure on their employees? We know their aim is to streamline, is this their way of getting folks to quit?

Happened recently to me to 20+ years of service and an isolated incident as well.

HR is nothing more than landing pad for complaints. They listen and then collaborate with senior management in hopes to diffuse the situation.

Remember HR is there to protect the company, not the employees.
