Yet I’m praying not to get laid off. I despise this place and most of my team. My manager is straight from he-l. Clueless, except when it comes to pitting us against each other. People at the top fuel the toxicity, it seeps into everything we do. And yet, I can’t afford to lose this job. God knows I’ve been trying to find something else, but all I see are fake postings or companies announcing layoffs. I don’t know about you, but I feel completely cornered and hopeless.

Don't wish for a layoff!! The severance runs out too quickly and the job market right now is absolutely terrible. It took me an entire year to find something and I'm well qualified with good experience. Everyone I know that has been laid off is struggling.
WF is a cesspool for sure, but in this job market its better than being unemployed.
Hang in there OP - try and find some good in the piles of p-o.
I feel your pain! I have friends laid off from Wells 18 months ago with excellent resumes who are using every resource and connection they have, submitting hundreds of application, who are still unemployed. One had to sell their house to survive. I’m keeping my head down and trying to fly under the radar. I’m not wealthy and even though I’ve been looking for a new job for over a year, I cannot afford to lose my job right now.
You were returning to office happily in 2022, I was using my remote and hybrid time at home to create only fans content and now I’m thriving. We are not the same. This job is my airfare money.
There are plenty of companies hiring, but theyre gonna expect you to come to work five days a week, be productive every day youre there and they probably aren't gonna pay anywhere near what you make now. Still feel like youve got it so bad?
Its been like this for me for the last two years.
Waiting to get laid off for the severance, despite having plenty of money saved up
But today is almost certainly that day!
The fragility and fake news on this post is incredible.
If you’ve lost hope it means the inhumane leadership at these companies are winning. You’re going through a rough spot and, in the words of someone who battled true evil, Sir Winston Churchill, “If you’re going through he-l keep going.” This is not the train to Auschwitz.
There is ALWAYS hope even in the darkest of times.
I’ve been exactly where you are. I know all too well that soul-su-king hopelessness. Grit your teeth, plant a smile on your face, and win an Academy Award - smile and nod, smile and nod, as you continue to look for another job.
ChatGPT 5.0 is your friend - use it to align your background and skills with every job you apply for. Send cover letters! And prepare, prepare, prepare for every single job interview. Go up on Glassdoor and research a company’s interview section before you get on the phone/on camera for panel interview/in person interview.
Treat each job interview as an audition. Memorize your responses to the typical questions: “Tell me about your background”, “Why do you think you’d be a good fit for this role”, “Why are you interested in this role?”. Again - get on Glassdoor and find out what questions they’re asking.
In this type of job market it is not about “finding the right fit” nor “your interviewing THEM as well”. To heck with that! You are auditioning! And companies ARE hiring - don’t believe the BS the media is spewing. Bad news sells - we tend to click on those stories about Amazon ‘laying off thousands’. Perhaps in doing so we’re attempting to validate our own fears. I don’t know, I’m not a shrink.
I do know this: I’ve been in this industry a long, long time. And I have come up against some truly evil people. I too have felt helpless and hopeless. I’ve been completely broke and scared. But every single time I have moved on and found another job.
Don’t let these places dictate your happiness. Su-k it up, grit your teeth, smile and nod, and win that Academy Award. Stop fighting. You need to stay in your seat until you find another job. “Kevlar” your belly and act like you’re rolling over. And do not broadcast what you’re doing to ANYONE. Okay, your best friend. Trust no one. This is about surviving and you will get through this.
@ap I have. I came here to get away from a company that openly hates its employees (Ameriprise Financial, if you're looking to add to your list of companies to avoid), and for several years, it was much better than what I left. Now, not so much. They know they have the whip hand because the job market is bad. They can demand anything and we have to take it or lose our income in a very tight job market.
I've never worked for a company that OPENLY hates its employees and does everything possible to make their jobs harder to perform. It is a complete shitsh**.83
Yep- we all feel this way. I’ve never seen so much hate in one workplace. At least my manager is a s disgusted as the rest of us. I need the money so I can’t quite without something lined up.
I feel ya
