Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Are you ready CTO - FHO

It's coming for you tomorrow. Those who have been waiting for it, hopefully you get it. Those that want to survive, I'll pour one out for you! Good Luck.

@d9 FHO (particularly win) is a great example of what poor executive leadership can do to a team.

The engineers with the skill sets and willingness to work left the bank because they could get jobs elsewhere.

The layoffs occasionally hit the low performers, but sometimes hit some good engineers.

What's left are either the political s*ck ups who became leads as a favor or those middling rank,and-file "engineers" who somehow managed to skate through the layoffs through luck.

@d9 Well said. I've run into so many road-blocks thrown up by the FHO leads that I've come to the conclusion that many (not all) get-off on rejecting work.

They push off so much work for whatever reason they can make up in the moment. Meanwhile, when their technical skill is needed, it amounts to "Reboot? Oh, that didn't fix it? Call so-and-so."

@a1 Its not because of headcount that they are slow/terrible. Its because of the high number of poor performers that made it through previous cuts. It's basically impossible to have a complete A-List team, but when you have a primarily D-list roster you're bound to have headaches. Remember, most of these layoffs haven't been merit based.

That's what I see as being wrong with Technology in general. (If you take offense maybe this statement isn't about you or maybe you are, indeed, part of the problem and should fix it.) Senior and Lead titles were handed out to pacify employees, keep bodies around but they weren't based on Merit. So now you've got those employees who lack critical thinking skills and can't handle an issue solo. Have to be hand held and have their work redone when the flaws are exposed.

People will complain about the quality of work coming from off-shore, but in my field of vision I see as much garbage coming out of entitled, poorly skilled US resources with inflated titles here.

There is a plan to reduce by 200 more. Every team is short staffed, but tomorrow will be significant

I don't know how they can get rid of more people in those orgs-- it's hard enough to get anything done w/out fewer people to get them done.

FHO can’t take anymore layoffs. They’ve been cut to the bone as it is. It takes a long time to get any asks from them completed.
