Being forced out

I have be with Macy’s over 20 years. My people leader towards me has an attitude towards me by saying I am not pulling my weight . Thats she has the same people doing everything. I working on merchandise. I also do the signing and markdowns on my floor. She wants her girls in my position. I work in ready to wear. They is no one in my store I would trust to say anything.

@vv—it’s one of three reasons

—-that’s the only demographic applying for the position

  • the company has figured out that they is the demographic that works for the least amount of money
  • there is a bias in hiring

It’s one of the three reasons, so you see any other ethnic groups interviewed but not get hired? How about age ranges? If it’s under 30 then I most certainly would say there is a strong bias in hiring, especially in this economy.

Working at a Macys retail location is nothing special as one poster mentioned. I see the people who work there and see trends in hiring based on the area and or Management team. Bloomingdale’s you have to be more customer service oriented and keep the sales floor clean. Furniture sites you have to be a good salesperson and dress professionally unless you’re a support person. Most comments here are accurate when it comes to who stores are hiring which is unfortunate. You get what you pay for Macys don’t forget that.

It is not coming from her- she has been instructed to target you to get rid of you. If you are older, have an accent or an opinion start keeping records of when you have been slighted. If you are put on warning hand in your grievances- where you felt undo prejudice for whatever illegal reason. Tell them you are getting an attorney. They will still get rid of you but you will get much larger severence. In the meantime, ask for a transfer. I did this (age and s-x discrimination) and got a very healthy package. And the tu-d who handled this so poorly got fired 5 months later.

If you are not 18 to 30, a minority, willing to work for no benfits and low pay, part time hours, macys does not want you.

I would move on... get another job, Macy's is not like working for NASA, it's just low-wage retail sweetie. Those jobs are a dime a dozen.

Put a In-store solutions case in. Just prepare because you will be black-balled for speaking up.
