Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Any information on remote workers? Do we have a RTO mandate coming?

I work from NYC and was hired as full time remote. I don't think I will be able to move to Minneapolis. Hoping that there is no RTO mandate for people like me.

@ap I walk my dogs several times a day and still get more done daily than I did when I worked in the office.

A RTO 3 days company wide announcement is coming soon just not next week. Have an exit plan by December.

@ap you sound like a delight. I can’t imagine sh-----g on others because they work from home. What does it matter if they go to Starbucks or pick up their children? Are you upset at your lack of home life balance? That’s the entire point of working from home. I can log on earlier and log off later because I have flexibility to do that. That’s the great thing about working remote. Not every job is a 9-5 and if I want to work on projects after my kids go to bed or I walk the dogs, I can. Are there people that take full advantage of working from home? Sure . But I promise you I’m effing around when I’m in office. I get nothing done. Why? Because I’m too busy talking to others and walking around. I’m not sure where this bitterness comes from.

@ap

How many people have you monitored closely enough, to make those claims? Certainly, you have a sound and factual basis for everything you chose to say, right?

I worked at the biggest online retailer for a decade before coming to Target who made the push over 2 years. At first it was all talent related, managers could save extremely high talent- I saw remote workers were truly best of best and non replaceable. By year 2 of in office work, all remote team members were back in Seattle or pushed out. It might not be black and white, but you’ll feel unsupported, and have career growth.

@ap Hmmm, sounds like projection. Instead of acknowledging what you find so objectionable about your own work ethic, you believe everyone else behaves in the ways that cause you so much shame. But at least you feel the shame, even if you're too emotionally damaged to overcome it. So maybe that's a positive?

Very simple formula. Are you more concerned about going out and getting Starbucks, starting at 10, walking dogs at noon and picking up kids from the bus stop while saying "I get more done from home" then your job is most likely unsafe

Same boat. Hope for best but we are talking about people who don't think twice about not including a time zone in their communication!
