Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Compiling Info on Structural Changes. What is everyone else hearing?

Naturally tons of rumors going around. Listing below things I have heard that I feel relatively confident in based on my sources.

  • IM & Planning combining. Potentially leading to middle management cuts?
  • A&A combing with another pyramid, likely home?
  • F&B and E&B combining.
  • L8+ have been told to relocate to Minneapolis. Already hearing some will not be returning to company.

General Numbers (from WSJ & internal)

  • 1,000 layoffs, 800 job posting eliminations
  • 80% of layoffs will come from US HQ
  • Leaders will have 3x impact vs individual contributors.
  • Would lead to estimated 600 leader layoffs, 200 ICs.

Hearing layoffs all the way from EVP down to L5. Top of pay range relative to level likely highest risk.

Assumptions are merch will be hit hardest, with likely impacts to planning as well as support roles for all functions.

Curious on the validity of all of these rumors. Like I said, I feel pretty confident in them but curious to what everyone else is hearing.

Saw on another post that .com is being pushed back exclusively to stores, anything to support this?

@bv I’d think the same, especially if some of the management roles above were being eliminated.

High in pay range tends to be top performers in my area and in my experience. If combining areas creates redundant roles, wouldn’t it make more sense to keep the top performers?

Nobody is safe, L2+. I manage a team of folks, I would not be shocked to have my role eliminated.

@a4 or maybe, just maybe we need better merchants than what we have today.

I think people are misunderstanding the 3x estimate, I doubt that's 3x in raw number of people but instead percent of population, so if 5% of ICs are being laid-off we can assume 15% of managers. given the difference in population size its likely that on the whole more ICs will be let go than managers.

@a4 probably because merch hasn’t done their job well.

If it is mainly merch impacted then the company is going downhill for sure. How can you lead with merchandise authority without merchants who drive the strategy, assort the product, manage the vendors, lead the BU and the roundtable. Without merch there’s no product, without product there’s no money and without money there is no company.

A&A and home already are the same pyramid and report into the same SVP so that isn’t a change.

heard the same as this. also heard a lot of rumbling about brand and marketing teams. it’s anyone’s guess though but mainly have heard it will impact merch and IM the most (other than managers)

There was an email sent out yesterday to a group around hourly team members checking their schedules on Tuesday and that everyone will be paid for that 15 minutes. That tells me that L2-L4 isn't safe either.
