Heard from a recruiter today that companies are having a hard time hiring h1b's due to the government shutdown. I guess that's at least on positive of the shutdown.

MD is just lip service.
Companies like Dell need to give Americans jobs first or be penalized. Especially after Mike posted “Go America” on LinkedIn not that long ago.
He’s just pro cheap. Listen, when you’re getting rid of printers and cell phones to save a buck. you couldn’t be cheaper.
He’s a hypocrite.
The overwhelming majority of H1Bs at Dell are pretty far from top 1%. Just cheap indentured servants. Hire American's first.
With amazon laying off and the us unemployment rate to certainly increase, do we really need H1B since our workforce is flooded with unemployed US workers. Also, if jobs are being replaced by AI, why do we need H1B. Doesn't make sense other than cheap labor.
I thought that since visa fees(and US passports application fees) funded that part of the State Department that they were still being processed. Although using the TACO principle, who wants to pay $100G today only to have it reduced next month.
You realize that both parties haven't done a darn thing for curbing H1Bs and the like. The excuse is Americans do not want the job. No, Americans don't want the job at ridiculously low salaries.
Give jobs to Americans who are qualified.
Companies want to hire cheap labor. The US could hire experienced people from within the US but they don't want to pay for it. The race to the bottom continues.
The US unemployment rate is not as low as you'd think. Take a look at how they come up with the unemployment numbers and you realize that it is BS. The way they calculate it has been going on for decades.
@ac absolutely no sympathy for the H1B’s. Stay in your own country!
They can always move to canada
Many talents miss out
Yeah, it’s a really rough time for H-1Bs. Most people who aren’t on one would sh-t their pants if they ever had to deal with this
The $100k government "penalty" for hiring an H1B is coming into play too. Too bad it isn't a yearly penalty of something like $250k to incentivize hiring a citizen first.
They've also been cut off from FHA housing loans in the last month which should slow down all the imported "talent".
