Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

Why do we need so many layers of management?

What’s the point of having all of them? If we really need to reduce costs, why aren’t we cutting some of those positions instead of the people actually doing the work?

@op I have seen more people at the bottom who were doing the work being displaced as they were forced to train their Indian replacements than people in the layers of management. If this was only about reducing layers and increasing efficiency this would not have happened. This is what run of the mill employers led by useless uninspiring leaders do all the time. They assume power, they switch things up to justify their existence, then when they move on new leaders come in and switch it back just for the sake of change to justify their existence. For 100 years this firm was a steady cash cow. It was different because we did not have to bow to public investors who only cared about financial returns. But, then Penny assumed the to office on the tenth floor. She is not inspiring. She has brought in low thinking leaders from publicly traded companies because she knew and admitted on day one she felt underqualified for the job. Of course, these outside people are going to advise her to do things that publicly traded companies do. That is what they know. That is what they did to get to the top of publicly traded companies. Now they are at the top of a privately held company. I think it is too late. Penny has let too many outside people in. I do not think there is any turning back. What took Edward Jones, Ted, John, Doug, and Jim to build Penny has torn down in three short years. It is absolutely shameful.

ER was supposed to rectify those layers. But it didn’t do that. Instead it was a way to place the cronies and get rid of the people that they felt did not “fit” their model. Now w3 have people that do not know the work in places to do the work. It’s the brilliant work force and org strategy.
