Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Mismanagement driving a company into the ground

The company appears to be cutting costs by encouraging resignations or creating performance-based grounds for termination, such as enforcing a four-day office attendance policy. Profitability challenges, particularly in the Optum business due to CMS V28 changes, are straining finances. Heavy investments in AI are unlikely to yield short-term returns, if any. Meanwhile, executive perks—luxury travel, corporate jets, security, double-digit raises, and millions in stock options—remain untouched. Instead, the company is pressuring its most vulnerable employees. This is a textbook case of mismanagement driving a company into the ground. Leadership is dominated by yes-men and yes-women, with dissenting voices pushed out. If you have alternatives, consider leaving this toxic environment. If not, make the best of your situation and be grateful to still have a job.

Well said, @2rc+1k6jmpfts.

@as Candyman is an Infosys/Wipro drone at heart. Theory is that as long as it's "good enough for government work" then we win on price. Cut cost, cut price, make sales = ELT/SLT payday. If that doesn't work, just bundle up and sell off to PE to do a turnaround play to increase quality to raise prices further. Either way, execs get paid out.

Yeah the push to cut employees who actually do the work and to offshore work to less competent staff to save money will hurt the company in the end. They should be cutting perks and salaries from the top. Most of those people don’t do anything for our members or generate income.

People like SH keep inertia going around a metastasized national HMO and health coverage from a bygone era of pensions and loyalty. That's his life's work. He'll never admit or understand that that legacy is on the way out.

They consider employer-health insurance as American as Apple Pie even though it wasn't long before their births it was created as a way for employers to circumvent wage controls by offering "benefits" instead of more wages.

Clowns like SD and technical folks KNOW the system is terrible but they like a job so they come up with arcane ways to have "AI" make the white elephant system work "faster". They know EXACTLY what we could do with AI to eliminate the need/cost of Payers and hundreds of thousands of billing clerks in Providers, lower the cost of care, improve clinical outcomes, make things more equitable, etc. They're too lazy or heartless to do the right thing.

True believers in the rank and file (and up to some 32+) honestly believe we're making the system better and improving american healthcare.

Smart money knows shrinking headcount and driving into the ground is the ONLY way to get that sweet, sweet PE-fueled golden parachute payday for execs.
