Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Way too many layers of people adding no value

Half the company could disappear tomorrow if we just removed everyone who only goes to meetings and relays updates. Let the ones who actually do the work run things for a change.

No worries, they will be replaced just like everyone else.

@d0 Oh yes. my last manager told me that. He was always bi--hing -- his job was impossible. Like they say in the Navy, for Oracle its "Oracle support, 45 or so years of
tradition unmarred by progress." :)

@mh my manager told me years ago that Support made alot of profit for Oracle. To me, the big shots didn't know how to run support, had to use ITS which was not really great for what we were doing (manager told me that). It all changed when Randy Baker (VP)
was walked out of the building because he didn't think it was right. For some reason
now that I am gone, have been great on my requests ect. When I worked there, forget it.

I was so idealistic then. Couldn't figure out why support was getting worse. Then the last 10 years, I realized (yes, i am slow) No one cares up there. well they care about their bonuses of course, at the expense of the employee. Probably how most business works. Wasn't like that in the 80's.

I once met a motivational speaker who was an ex Air Force pilot. Hot shot!

He thought he ran the show, and that others just got in his way, until he was shot down over the dessert of Iraq. It was amazing to him how quickly other people became important to him. From the guy who packed his parachute, to the guys in the rescue helicopters who rescued him from an enemy patrol.

You don't appreciate the efforts of others until you are in trouble!

@ea I doubt it - there's been a reduction in headcount for sure but the Legacy apps have some huge customers that have not yet moved to a cloud product. Do you think ORacle will let all that revenue disappear ?

@kd The LOB I was in, the senior managers (the folks who actually managed direct reports) were very technical. If an engineer under them was slammed with multiple escalated issues, the manager could/often did weigh in and help until they could get another engineer freed up to help. I had and still have mad respect for those people.

THIS! My entire decade + at O NOT ONE of my direct managers or directors could even help with ANYTHING. I have no idea what any of them do aside from relay updates from their direct reports who are the real ones doing ALL the work--quoting, drafting, project managing--everything. It's sickening how many people they have let go that have the actual experience. Good luck to everyone still sticking with this company

@fn I would never use my private account to promote somebody greedy, not respecting employees and just trowing them out in a few minutes after many years of work. Let's advise them to use an AI to promote AI.

@f3 | I see a daily email from CL requesting more and more help promoting yet more AI posts on LinkedIn.

I received similar requests and ignored them. Maybe that's why I was put on the naught list? Does anyone actually use linked in for more that getting back in touch with former colleagues?

@OP I reject this assumption that we are useless. I see a daily email from CL requesting more and more help promoting yet more AI posts on LinkedIn. I assume I am being kept around to keep posting as instructed requests to promote CLs posts. It’s the same with attending other people’s meetings. I’m required to respond with a summary of a summary to the food chain above. I am also requested to join late and ask pointless questions to keep people awake. I really really am required for Oracle to continue to operate.

the legacy products and teams will be gone soon. The next step is OCI / AI org model with stack ranking for performance. No more golden eggs or politics. Oracle is very high in Debt and low in finance.

@ay unfortunately in Development there are also no valued mngrs being busy on to forwarding infos (or not) from upper mngmt to their reports - no additional personal value. They should be laid off first instead of employees actually doing their work. Without employees mngmnt has nothing to do, even AI machine would feel bored. Game over.

@af same as mine. really managers MUST kiss up or lose their jobs, i have seen that in the past. all they do is handle a mad customer and whip the metrics into line. It got where you would go from analyst/engineer to clerk. interaction was always disturbing, an OH SH-T when you got a slack message.

@OP that is how middle management and first line management have their jobs. They do nothing but move updates upwards and down

My direct manager was a type of person that he was expecting from my team literally everything - as a leader his knowledge was really poor. When we had questions regarding the work that needed the decision or knowledge a person on a higher position, his response was often: "I don't know". But at the same time he was angry if he asked and we didn't know and expect from us doing research. Personally he never did researches, looks like really didn't care... It was so frustrating to be managed chaotically by the person who didn't give a rat's a-s. His only task was to approve time off and to control our work and still made us to work more, deeper, faster like crazy. I suppose his role could be easily removed because the interaction with him was more like disturbing employees when they try to complete the tasks.
