Insurance update

So, despite working for a health insurance company, our premiums and deductibles are increasing.
However, I'm pleased to announce free pet care!!
I feel like I'm in a slapstick comedy.

There are programs that are considered "buy ups" - part of the cost increase is every year this hole makes their own employees automatically "purchase" the buy up program - no choice - so they force you to pay more for a service you may not even want. Gets worse every year. Extortion

Where to start? The percent of the population on Medicaid/Medicare is too high. From an insurer perspective, you have an older population that are going to be making claims. From the provider side, they need us to subsidize all of those with CMS as the payer because they don't pay cost. This isn't sustainable with more hospitals closing.

This isn't too unusual. Many companies are expanding into pets. Ultimately, you need living beings to insure and more people are choosing pets instead of kids and babying the pets as though they were kids. It's a reasonable business decision to cater to those choices. I know a company that takes human approved dr-gs and recertifies + resells them for pets: cats and dogs. Dr-gs like for diabetes and memory problems (seriously). They're making millions and their growth trajectory is shocking.

Don't get too excited its not free, per se. Its from pet vet and offers free virtual office visits. However you still have to pay for the actual services.

Interesting. I haven't received any details for 2026 yet. I was wondering how long it would take them to get into the pet insurance business to make up for the losses in GBD. Will they be offering home, vehicle and boat insurance in 2027?
