@ev Where'd you hear this? I don't know if it would make sense to blanket layoff freelancers since we all perform different duties.

Freelancers in unions have about the same benefits apples to apples as most freelancers in news get a higher rate than staff, the 401k is also available via entertainment industry plan , freelancers take vacation whenever they want and the higher rate through the year helps them pay for that vacation time .. layoffs are usually staff not freelance . If you are a tech on staff in news - you get the third rate citizen PKG that includes no job security and no seniority . It's always paid to be freelance in news for like the last 30yrs. New staff don't get a guaranteed pension like the old school riff Raff did
I would assume they’re cheaper to keep than full time employees.
