Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

Ex Case Manager IOL 2020

I was a case manager for IOL 2020 layoffs, long since left. My tips for yall trying to survive:

1.) Mobility, max
2.) High Performers with salaries ABOVE grade not necessarily safe with intent being cost cutting.
3.) Experienced hires, good luck.

@eh
It’s not all about career progression IMO. In fact, I think ppl get “progressed” way too quickly here through their careers. It puts ill equipped ppl into jobs they shouldn't be in, and wouldn’t be in with other companies. Gone are the days where engineers spend years on sites learning to be engineers; seeing and touching the things they directly affect. Now a days they’re too busy trying to be CEO’s and “climb the ladder”. Rotating through positions every 2-3 years and not learning much about anything other than how to fluff up a great EADS cycle. The company culture plays a huge part in this, don’t get me wrong. With a forced ranking system and drive to be competitive for shareholders, you have to play the game to survive.

@cw seriously. Career progression after this “ transformation” is going to be laughable

@cs it would be a very short step ladder in Edmonton.

I know a few career driven waste piles who couldn’t hack it anywhere else who will be happy to move their families to climb the ladder.

Just be aware that if you move to Edmonton, and IOL sells the assets, they will sell you with them and relieve themselves of their severance and pension obligations.

I have not talked to a single person who intends to move to Edmonton, some are curious about what they would hypothetically be offered.

Good luck to all. Happy Thanksgiving.

Who actually wants to survive and have to move to Edmonton? Do you even trust that you’ll be there long? Hire to retire is dead. Long term career is dead. Get what you need for yourself from Imperial and then leave. No matter what position you’re in or what sort of nonsense carrot gets dangled out there for you.
