They dont need badges. They know where your computer is at all times.

@an You clearly have no idea how RFID technology works, do you? There's no way reader on the ceiling could read badge chip.

I don't believe OP is ready for the neck collar.

If dogs can be trained using shock collars, surely employees can be trained nearly as easily using them.

Intel can't even post a reliable transparent tracker. It's very limited. Micron had a system where you could see all your badge in times, both factory and onsite. It helped keep people honest and was only used to get rid of the abusers.

Seems like Intel doesn't trust its managers to enforce the new onsite policy, and they're probably right. Too bad the workforce can't produce. This should help cut more of the dead weight, but it's definitely going to hit some of the best performers too, the ones who were skating by under non-compliance. Now they all get another shot to figure out if they want to stick with this constant disappointment or go find a job that actually respects their ability to get the work done on their own terms.

@a1
It's amazing, Intel installed the RFID readers on the ceilings of the building I worked in over 20 years ago. I saw live views of workers moving around the factory floor . They deactivated it shortly after testing it because people started screaming about privacy as it tracked you right to bathrooms. I don't recall them de-installing any of the wiring or the sensors. If you honestly think that this hasn't been around in just in a passive mode for decades you're an id--t.

They say it’s for personal use only. The paragraph after says it doesn’t account for time off and the managers are encouraged to take that into account.

You definitely will have to come on site. Unless your manager wants to lose their job for you, then you also lose your job.

I had heard some engineers didn’t make any changes thinking no one was paying attention. You can forget that.
