Thread regarding Pure Storage layoffs

Are all attempts to hire qualified staff so sc--wy?

I work in the tech industry and saw a job posted at Pure Storage, California, back in May. It wasn't exactly what I was looking and I was in final interview somewhere else so I handed it off to a friend. He is very experienced, but over 40 white male. They called him for a quick phone interview and said they would set up a second interview. That never happened. Months went by then he got an email wanting an interview as soon as possible. Kind of like "months went by, really?" on their end.

So I did some digging and called up a friend of mine that now works in HR at Pure Storage corporate. She said FTEs didn't seem to be a focus of Pure Storage now and they were looking for temps, contractors, etc.

Question - is that true? Doesn't that mean the company is in bad shape? Any company that would pass on experienced FTEs for leftovers sounds like a company without $$ and about to crash or purposely being hung out to dry. Any insights? Thanks!

Honestly- It's a sh-t company. Our sales reps are over paid dou--e bags who join calls and don't know sh-t. But hey: We get a free lunch.

When we have legitimate issues, it's let me call this person or that person. After a few DAYS we finally get the right person... Support in these industries has just absolutely gone to sh-t.

Similar experience as posted above. Pure Storage HR called my wife for an interview. Process dragged on all summer! Month after month, with a month in between contacts. Each time they reached out to her it was urgent, they needed her to interview with someone else right away. Then after the interview, ghosted for another month. She finally decided she didn't want to work for them and just have fun sc--wing with their heads. She is retired and doesn't really need a job, but was just getting bored. So she had some really fun interviews in August lol. And whatever they wanted she said yeah sure I can do that.

Last contact they said they needed her to start asap, the next Monday. She said sure, started their extensive and time consuming onboarding process. Then when she showed up for the first team meeting and was being introduced she said "I quit" and left the meeting.

HR and the manager kept calling her but we just had a good laugh. She didn't need the job and got tired of them sc--wing around with her (and other candidates probably). Seems normal there and at most tech companies now.

So, if there is anyone out there looking to apply for an engineering job where they will sc--w your around for 5 months before even getting a job offer (which was below market in pay), give Pure Storage a try, lol. They have an immediate opening!

It could well be that they had other finalists in the interview stages and they may have opted for other opportunities. More likely the reasons why the rush to get the interviews scheduled. Also, the hiring process there is super slow. When I was there back from 2021 to mid-2025, it took me nearly 3.5-months from 1st interview to Day 1 of employment.

Hiring contractors seems to be the new norm at a lot of tech companies especially when it does not count towards budget, or it might be a restructuring could be in the works for FTE employees. Who knows?!?! For quick related projects, a lot of companies will source to contractors.

The company is growing fast, but that will only last for so long......
