- GM is extending layoffs for about 280 employees at Factory Zero, its Detroit EV plant, keeping them idled through December instead of returning Oct 6. One of two daily shifts building the GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Escalade IQ was cut in early September, and about 120 workers have been on layoff since April. The changes do not affect Chevrolet Silverado EV or GMC Sierra EV production. GM cites slower EV demand after a 7,500 federal tax credit expired Sept 30 and says it will keep adjusting operations to market conditions.
