Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Each layoff reduces my productivity

After each round of cuts I stopped doing something, whether it's the overtime or the extra polishing that used to matter to me. At first I fought to keep standards up, then I realized it was nothing but self punishment. Now I guard my time and try not to let the job eat me, and I make sure to do just a bit less after every round.

And i lost it even without layoff. No salary adjustments, no rsu refreshers for years. Managers preferred ones getting promotions; years of hard works, overtimes, weekend hours neglected; made significant some improvements to existing systems; all getting ignored. Every year some bogus reason for not getting increments or promotions. I see no future at this company, just getting by till i find another job.

@fm we are not voting our way out of this. according to history books, heads on spikes is the only solution.

Just wait until the cost of your health insurance goes way up!

My homeowner insurance went up over $1000 this year. Car insurance up. Groceries up. Repair costs up.

The only thing that didn’t go up one bit was my salary. Not even an inflation adjustment (which, by the way, Oracle charges customers).

And people wonder why the MAGAs keep winning. People (mistakenly) believe the MAGAs are going to do something. Sorry, they aren’t.

Take it to the next level, find a second remote job.

Those feelings are natural and probably universal. Those things, layoffs, ARE scary and depressing. Demoralizing for the people left behind..

When I was still there during a big layoff, I felt the same way. I was in Support, so I just worked tickets and collaborated when needed. I might have a few days to a week where I slacked off for the reasons you mentioned, but that didn't last because there were real people - human beings - at the other end of all of those tickets and they needed help. I was doing it for THEM. We rarely were asked to work overtime (and it wasn't expected) even though some people routinely did. I wasn't one of those people. :) Hang in there, it gets better.

Not trying to lecture you, my circumstances there were just different. Tldr: the role there determines how we respond to these demoralizing events.

@OP What does the dear leader expect when they openly admit thar performance ratings weren't a factor in the layoff criteria.

Oh and no focal means you are expected to do more for less and less each year.

You are totally right, I lost my productivity even earlier than layoffs begin realizing how my direct manager treat our worktime, does not respect that employees have private life after work day - always with hidden irritation, always hungry that we should work more. This is never ending story to satisfy them. I got enough and changed the job. It was so frustrating each day.
