Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Careful of them letting go.

I am hoping this posts help people. I was let go in July and was provided severance for 3 months. My last day is October 21. I had been with the company for 7 years. As soon as I was informed I started looking. I had couple of interviews and they had started to do background check. BNY uses a third party (The work number) from equifax to do employment verification. I am in the last stages with one of the companies and I proactively did my verification. Here is how they are going to mess me up. In the report it shows

Employment Status: Active
Original Hire Date: my date when I was hired
Date of Termination: 10/21/2025

I am not telling employer that I am laid off as I am still receiving paycheck. I am afraid that when they do the background check they will see that the date of termination is already populated and I fear they might rescind the offer.

This company can't do one thing right other than sc--wing employees. Did anyone go through this scenario? I am afraid that I might loose this opportunity.

Why are you starting off at a new place with a lie? Great first impression

@ws Honestly what was the realization in terms of true dollars with this lawyering up?

Even 33% fees which is low fees, the effort you put into this is it worth it?

My relative took 10 years to resolve through Dept of Labor, and it was a mere moral victory and the interest paid was peanuts thanks to 0% environment.

But he won

Personally, I would walk away - good riddance - and spend my energy elsewhere

@ws How quickly did they settle?

@b3 this is not made up. I was there a long time and should have received a year severance. They offered me this same 3 months in the form of keep paying you vs lump sum. I did not take their offer or sign anything. Instead, used an attorney and legally pressured them with things like discrimination and retaliation. This did work in my case and they did settle quickly, paying close to a year salary in a lump sum. Hope this helps. Good luck to anyone who is still there. What they are doing to in most cases good people, is beyond unethical. I would guess there may be some other companies who may employ similar practices but I personally have never seen or heard of anything like what they are doing in my lifetime and I’ve been around a while.

It does not show up in background check. I went through the same thing. The background check is more for criminal background. As long as it the flag shows as currently employed, you should be ok.glad that you are out of the horrible company. After leaving BNY I realized that it was such a pathetic terrible company to work in. Good luck in your new job

Just claim you told BNY you got a new job and are quiting. That's why there is a termination date in the system for you.

They could see it as a positive. You aren't wasting their time testing the waters or trying to get an offer to make your employer give a counter offer.

@at I don't think OP is lying. I was laid off too and still receiving my paycheck till my last day November 15th. As per my separation agreement it states the last day is Nov 15th. I am not sure what the "True number" is. I was laid off last week and was there only for 2 years. If you are in IT and a scrum master be careful especially if you are not on Wove. They are hiring tons of contractors from India.

@OP

Why would you "lie" to your potential new employer? You think you can "hide" the truth that you were laid off?
ac
How is BNYM is "sc--wing" you? And one cannot believe your story. This is purely made up.

How are you still an "active" employee if you got severance? You do not receive a "periodic" paycheck if you received severance. That was only in SUB. If you were laid off in July with severance as you claim, they would have paid a lump sum and a benefits premium.

So, this story itself is a lie, and you seem to be bad at it
