It’s here just to push out as many people as possible on the cheap. If I’m wrong, convince me otherwise. Give me one example of RTO actually improving collaboration, efficiency, morale, productivity, anything, really. All I’ve gained is more time wasted commuting and higher expenses. I balance out the idiocy of RTO by making sure I’m not available after hours. None of it makes sense unless you see it for what it is - a way to make people quit.

Well thank goodness you told me the true purpose of I would have been so lost without your wisdom…
The company is actively ignoring and censoring worker complaints about RTO. The voice of employee survey was chock full of complaints, but glossed over at today’s CEO employee town hall. Emails sent prior to the meeting inquiring about RTO were also not addressed. Colleagues don’t have desks, monitors, computer mice, meeting rooms etc to even do their work in office. Not to mention the lack of acknowledgment that people have global roles now and a 9-5 work day doesn’t align to early AM calls with EMEA and PM calls with Asia.
The morale in office is no longer same as previous. Forcing people back to office just meant getting warm bodies back. Worse still, we heard some Safety issues arising in factories as some office staff did not get back to office for years, and got injured!! That got the plant VPs and directors excited.
i dont' mind returning to work. I like when people come in sick and get me sick.
Can actually use sick days. when i worked from home I was never sick. Gotta get some of those days back.
RTO to get folks to retire or quit, schedule investor event, announce product pruning (CBG), announce business carve-out (SIBG), announce layoffs, rehire in GSC’s, sell to US customers and government and repeat for stock gains then run away. New CEO comes to take what is left and continue to liquidate until 3M is only a memory.
My team works remotely but i go in. I have found i can put in significantly less work because they are all paranoid about being away and i am “working” because im at the center, which gives me time to grind on my side gig
What did OP mean "finally realize"? Was there ever a doubt?
I have felt like I have been able to get better collaboration in person, but just have not felt that 4 days a week was needed for that. My program has most of its key meetings on Thursdays so literally could just be in the office Thursdays to get 98% of my in-person benefits.
No no, I was told the collaboration is already improving our synergies!!!!
Dismal, this word races through my mind whenever I am in the office. The 3M HQ office areas smell bad. The food is outrageously expensive for the low quality. Everybody you talk to talks about how great the company used to be, but it will get better they laugh. BB is here to disassemble the businesses in a controlled manner. Remember they called it “RemainCo” this is because 3M had effectively come to it's end, have a nice day.
3M is handling RTO so poorly, but OP is right that there's no good business reason for it.
Research has shown really, really clearly that RTO doesn't improve collaboration or business outcomes and instead just makes workers unhappy and resentful.
It's just to drive people out because Bill Brown needs to cut payrolls before he sells the next piece of the company.
Spot on. The company can't have it both ways.. if we must be in the office to work effectively, then they have lost their claim to my many evening and weekend hours.
