They’re all terrible enterprises that only care about the bottom line, no matter the cost to clients or employees. But Optum has been, hands down, the most exhausting, mentally, physically, and emotionally. The mix of daily toxicity and uncertainty, constant ethical dilemmas, and the pressure to underserve clients has taken a real toll. I don’t know how the rest of you are coping, but I can’t seem to shake it off, even in the little free time I get.

Nowhere is perfect but I 100% agree the healthcare industry is a complete catastrophe compared to other industries. Just have it in the back of your mind and be proactive. Keep your head on a swivel, and transfer your skills to another industry if and where you can
As someone working here in the public relations sphere, what you're sharing is spot on. The mental gymnastics used by management and upper leadership are appalling.
"Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain."
I have worked for many hospitals within my nursing career and deciding to switch to medical administration. I have had shady bosses and petty employees that’s everywhere, but it seems like it’s so much more vile here. Regardless if you work in person part time like I do or fully remote there is this overhanging nagging feeling in the air I haven’t been able to ignore for about a year.
The managers and supervisors who are poor communicators, passive aggressive and just non leadership material leak into their teams and how they treat others and different departments and that vile has to come from the top.
There needs to be a complete overhaul and more focusing on professionalism and taking care of members not how many cases we can close out a day that just result in so many errors and unchecked burn out it leads to, surprise surprise, more errors.
I hate the other managers I work with. I hate having to tell the overseas team repeatedly what they need to do and they still mess up and bi--h when they need to correct it.
I hate getting told by my director I am “ crushing it” and picking up slack where these sh---y supervisors have let their teams fall because they’re too busy on FB or instagram and playing office politics with upper leadership and their team and hate one employee who takes full advantage of their PTO or whatever petty reason they find to dislike them so this poor employee is begging to switch departments and the supervisor won’t let them.
I hate not being paid what I’m worth. I hate this company.
I am actively looking for another job and have paid someone to polish up my resume.
Even with a decade of experience and degrees the job market is in he-l and everyone else in the country across every industry is getting laid off for AI or offshoring. This company reflects how America is right now. How are people suppose to live this American dream fantasy when there are 500, 1k or even 2k people applying for the same position? How are people suppose to stay healthy when they can’t even afford the healthcare offered by their employer and if they can they lose it once they are laid off? How can companies expect loyalty when they would replace us within 24 hours once they let us go or we die or quit?
