The Semiconductor Industry Association is a trade association. It exists to protect its members’ bottom lines. It’s all theater.

The one thing nobody has been able to answer yet, so we are building massive fab capacity in North Texas, which will eventually all need to be staffed with qualified and experienced professionals. Wouldn't it make sense to retain existing fab folks and move them over when the time comes? Or is it really that easy finding 100s of new fab workers the moment just when you need them?

I haven't been let go, but is anyone able to contact the Semiconductor Industry Association and make a complaint or comment regarding Intellectual Property, Workforce and Immigration, and Supply Chain Security?

The Semiconductor Industry Association, or SIA, is an American advocacy group dedicated to the domestic semiconductor industry. They are an advocacy group and I wonder if we make enough noise, whether they will look deeper into Texas Instruments and pressure the company into not making rash decisions based on trying to grow their stock as well as limit some of their transition to India.

Isn’t H1B supposed to be temporary and they should be first to go during RIF and not other way around?

@gs it might be likely if they were technicians. I've seen people of high seniority levels, newer employees, man and woman, all ethnicities being let go on LinkedIn.
I think the most annoying thing is the CHIPS act funding was there to help put American manufacturing at the forefront so we could catch up with Asia, and then TI turns around and lays off employees across the United States, while attempting to move design and manufacturing to India. Yes, it makes sense from a cost cutting perspective, but tell me why TI should receive any funding or positive PR related to the CHIPS act and 'America first' publicity?

@dk Everyone at RFAB who was laid off on the prod floor was a minority but no Indians. Quite strange

If you have an H1b it really su-ks to lose your job since you only have 30 days to find a job or have to leave the country. Good luck

You are clearly more expensive than an H1B. I’ve heard they get paid on an average of 20% less than an US citizen.

To all news organizations reading in... A sure way to check for lay-offs is LinkedIn, as people will post about their newly unemployed status and have an "#openforwork" cover on their profile image.

If you do enough digging, you will see a mix of people, some of which state H-1B visa status. What this means is that some employees with H-1B visas were let go.

Interestingly, I was also let go but I am a citizen, I just happened to be a lower profile employee. I have a few coworkers that stayed with H-1B visas.

It seems as if Indian managers have a real protective attitude toward their fellow Indian nationals.
