They're not even trying to to hide it.....it's all a down sizing (restructuring) and centralization. The management consultants got paid a lot to quote these efficiencies......check out the dashboard on goto/leg......you'll be appalled at how much exxon has spent on management consultants this year.
They are not layoffs unless you are not willing to relocate. XOM used to have offices in dozens of US cities. Now only Hou, Midland and Dallas plus locations at refineries and chem plants. over the past 40 years, district office in Kingsville, Tyler, Oklahoma City, Gretna, Pensacola, Santa Barbara, Anchorage, Long Beach, Andrews, and more have been closed and consolidated. IF you can work from home, we can work from 3 big locations like London, Singapore and Houston. IF you are not willing to relocate, take the package, XOM can find someone else to do your job since 95% of you are totally replacable. This is about having a critical mass of talent in several key locations, plus eliminating transfers except to key assets like PNG, Guyana, Permian or Mozambique
