I know alot of the items on this site give insight to what may or may not be occurring but I was recently let go and was here 27 years. I was pretty sure our department was going to have cuts so I was not shocked when I got the meeting from my manager for a random 1 on 1. What I was shocked about was that my severance which I was forecasting to be roughly a years check be dwindled down to 12 weeks due to me missing training by 2 days last year and RTO because I wasnt in office or on network long enough. I argued that this isnt fair and I was told the policies are in place for a reason so management is definitely targeting high severance people and doing what they can to make sure they don't get it. My case is not a one off either I've seen many others have the same issues here. I was in Westboro and all our jobs are gone to florida soon. Just please heed my warning and have common sense that this place doesnt want to pay a year upfront to anyone and will dig and find any reason not too. Im lucky im able to retire in a year so im not concerned about this too much, I just find It very sad this is how they treated me after so long.

@an Same here. I was let go earlier this year after 35 loyal, devoted service to the company. They decided to give me partial met expectation after I misread two email requests. This has absolutely no financial impact to the company but they found bullsh-t ways to get me "fired". I am still angry. I dont know what to do.
@r6 I was coming in enough days. I got flagged for leaving after 3 hours 3 times one cycle and listed as a "coffee badger " but stopped afterwards and always came in for 7hrs steady after.
Thanks for your post. Very concerning and definitely not "doing what's right" by an employee.
Can you expand more on your comment about not being on the network long enough?
"...RTO because I wasnt in office or on network long enough...."
Were they tracking your hours in office, and not telling you that you weren't doing enough, just to use it against you? Or were you just not coming in enough days?
It’s is pretty standard modus operandi. I was also let go in a similar way earlier in the year with barely much of a severance. I was also put on a bogus pip. Luckily I found a job within couple months. The management is spineless at this company. The culture is highly toxic. RV is marketing ceo, doesn’t care how to run a company. I am glad I am out of there.
@cx this is Canada laws.

I'm a 40+ year employee, legacy Mellon. I volunteered to be laid off this next round, was told I would get a package but have no official info yet. Hoping for the best but anticipating the worst. Either way I'll be collecting my pension.
@aq of course I got my pension. It’s protected by ERISA law, for now anyway. Some times you have to cut your losses. I saw so many folks get sc--wed. This place has become a dumpster fire ready to be ignited with the flames of RV’s evil machinations.
@an
You got skrewed fer shure. If I had to guess they took one look at you and said ‘This
S. 0. B can retire and get a pension from here.
Why should we give a going away present?’
I hope you did apply and get your pension.
If you are here 30 years, you were eligible
For it through 2008 years of service and the cash offset extension until they stopped that too’.
It is awful that some of us stayed and hoped they would do the right thing. Imagine being 62 and seeing alot of your friends and former colleagues leaving over the last 3 years with a package and now you as a survivor are going to get nothing.
Bad bad bad bad place…
Most managers here do not have your back. I was here 30 years and was put on a bogus PIP with a clause to be terminated with cause after I got a “partially meets” on the BS “power our culture” goal. @OP consider yourself fortunate you got 12 weeks; even though you, like me, should have gotten a year’s severance. You are correct, there are multiple prongs to deny long timers full severance. I would have been happy with 12 weeks as I got nothing.
There was a post about this yesterday where it is coming out that they are looking to cease severance except in rare or conditional circumstances. So here goes more proof. I believe this is yet a sign that this company is definitely in trouble and/or up for a merger. There are also hiring freezes and reqs just on hold.
I hear that they are looking to cap everyone's severance to 12 weeks. By the looks of this post, there might be some truth to that.
Run, dont walk, to an employment lawyer.
@a1 I was a meets expectations every cycle employee and my manager and I got along. I spoke with them after and said it came from above they had nothing they can do. Maybe they are lying sure but they told me severance at my tenure is not looked at favorably.
Were you on good terms with your manager? Do you think if your manager had your back, so if let go due to personnel cuts they would champion for you to get a full severance?
