Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

TIAA no longer values its employees

In regards to return to office, if TIAA truly valued their employees, they would be willing to work with them to come up with solutions for remote/flex/return to office profiles rather than sticking everyone in the same box and saying one way works for everyone. About 25 years ago Google pretty much invented the unique office model with free snacks, flex work spaces like pods with bean bag chairs, phone booths, and foosball and billiard tables and for some reason TIAA thinks this is some cool unique idea that will draw people back to the office. As usual, TIAA is about 30 years behind the rest of the world and they will continue to bleed good talent as a result

@1eb TB is Charlotte last I heard there wasn’t enough space in there for full RTO without more layoffs or moves to Frisco.

I don’t see them starting full RTO until January 5th 2026 at the earliest. But can also see it happening once Denver officially closes in July so they don’t have folks with end dates to be laid off complaining (most already one foot out the door why make them come in at all) also since their Starbucks closed and downtown is not as safe as it was pre covid lockdown and is the only office within 2 blocks from a state capitol.

I hate the rumor mill type stuff, but someone mentioned that Tuschar Bedi (sp?) accidentally told some folks that RTO full time is coming soon. If they are gonna do it , then just rip the band aid off and stop with all the gaslighting and lying.

This obsession with return to office is all due to lackluster managers who are stuck in the 1990s.

@a5 Healthcare costs and premiums are going way up for TIAA this fall and that will cause more off shoring of IT and customer service jobs and as a result, there is no way in Tony Romo's name they will ever reach 2,000 as*sociates in Fricksco

@OP TIAA hasn’t learned how work has changed after COVID. The irony in all of this is that once the Executive Committee and Board all the excess spending with the move, what is going to happen is that to save and cut costs, Jobs will be shipped off shore to Asia. Labor costs are 1/3 there compared with the US and Texas. This, will force layoffs in Frisco and layoffs at other domestic TIAA locations. It will be a vicious cycle. Empower, Mass Mutual, Fidelity and others are accelerating offshoring. Look at even TIAA with Accenture. That is why the move to Frisco is so puzzling and makes little sense. It is going to drain the surplus and eventually the $18M a year T. Boone Duckett will be drilling for black gold in West Texa$$ writing checks to Jerry Jones
