Got a message from my manager saying full office hours are expected if you are in office :(

lol at those that think all of us that do 3 or 4 hours in the office aren’t working enough.
I’m on the phone 4 hours straight in the AM helping the offshore folks find their belly buttons. Then lunch and head to the office for 3 hours for a mix of meetings and some actual work. An evening break and then back on for 2 or 3 more hours of productive work at home.
If they were dead set on implementing this, it would have been more fair to require 2x 8 hour days and 1x 4 hour day for a total of 20 hours out of the 40 hour work week (50/50). The fact that they didn’t even consider this tells you how deeply McKinsey is affecting our company. After all they are usually hired my companies to find way to force employees out.
People on my team are panicking to figure out child care or pet care arrangements at the last minute, since according to our higher ups this is effective immediately. Not giving people time to plan for this is another indicator that they want people to either quit, or have another metric to use to terminate them without severance pay.
It didn’t come from your manager. It was an enterprise communication. The party is over for some of you.
@b4 why do you think it matters whether or not you are exempt? That's for overtime guidelines.
@b7 yep, this is a manage to the bottom situation. So the rest of us suffer due to the 10% of coffee badgers.
Good... The number of employees going into the office for three hours and then leaving is embarrassing. You did this to yourselves.
You can look up “in office guidance for managers” on teamworks to get a better idea of expectations. Updated 4 days ago.
@ax yes, we were working at least 8 hours, but maybe not in the same exact spot. Even before Covid, some of us would leave at say 4 to pick up kids for soccer practice or the sitter once or twice a week.
It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. They never really laid down the hammer with the 3 days, so seems they have zero ba--s to do something with this.
they need to define full day especially as it relates to exempt employees. also, will half day PTO still count as an in office day?
@b2 they already know who you are. Nobody has approached about it.
Nobody told me I was supposed to go to work for 8 hrs. I do remember back in ‘23 when I went to work for 3-4 hours 3 days a week. But that got old so I started coffee badging 2 1/2 years ago. When I get caught I’ll post to make sure everyone knows.
I get a lot of messages from my manager. Just sayin……
@af they can. The reports shows individuals, if you were not compliant before your manager is supposed to document they had a conversation with you in workday. Assuming so they can use it if you are not compliant for next report pull and use it to pull back your bonus.
They want us in office, and to also use the amenities. But some are outside. Say I want to walk around the nature walk at CIC and take a call. I’m still on campus. But I’m not badged in. This is d-mb. I don’t need to be glued to my desk to do my work.
@as The reports will be more detailed than they are now. COVID proved most of us can be more productive when we are given flexibility to do our work. Funny how they like to pretend as if that is not true. This will come with its own backlash and they will not ease up until enough employees leave.
With the exception of a few, most work more than 8 hours, especially if they are permitted flexibility in the way they work. It is easy to say you will shut down at 8 hours and not log back in until the next day. The reality is that if you are not maintaining the same productivity level as before this went into effect they will manage you out.
So 8 hours? Actually it’s 7.5 by law so they better check that. You are allowed to leave campus during your break so they need their reporting to reflect that. How many in an out swipes do they check? Do they check the hours between those checks? How about we multiple swipes every day to break the reports?
This is enterprise wide. In office reporting will be updated to include time spent in office. If you leave the office early that will not count as a full day in office. Also, activity reporting enterprise wide is up next. 1980s micromanaging is making a comeback!
Anyone know if HR will be impacted?
All WIM managers
@ac what world do you live in?
It's Enterprise wide. They're going this route as opposed to the 4 days, I heard.
They contemplated making it. Teamworks announcement, but are just making managers communicate. Word is out on the punishment though. You'd think they would have already fired people of it was that important.
TA as well, effective immediately

What LOB?
What’s telling is that they’re having managers notify employees. That means they’re not able to track people’s individual hours with any certainty. Otherwise they would just send reports out. Or just send you individual mails about your compliance. Just continue on and ignore it.
An employer can mandate your hours and work location. Exempt generally means exempt from overtime and from docking pay.
Be sure to ask if India is required to do the same.
I'm on calls every day where they are "headed home to finish their day"....
Ask them what constitutes a full day and make them respond in writing. Isn’t it illegal to require an exempt employee to work x hours per day?
@a5 This was about hours. 8 expected as a “full” day.
It sounds like this communication stating the numbers of hours was first.
Next will come the four day in office expectation for January.
Hooray going back to the 1980's of office work! Because clearly there is no other way to work.
It went to all managers
Just remember. You are a professional.
Who is being micromanaged.
Got the same in Technology -- CCIBT.
Doing half days -- will continue doing so until my higher ups complain.
@a4 what is the other one? About hours or number of days in office?
All managers got it yesterday and another one today
