Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Took an attorney

I’m so tired of this company and their office politics and BS, but it pays well enough so I plan to stay until there is an actual lay off for my contract. My whole department however, is a sh-t hole and all the supervisors are racist and discriminatory ( I am a US citizen born and raised but I’m a mixed race which my sup has made multiple comments on during our 1:1s along with a disability I have, which of course isn’t recorded through teams chat because she always turns off the recording in these meetings) I like trump too but I don’t hate people blindly and have the d-mb boomer mentality they do and clap like a brain dead seal when someone says “ work hard to get what you want back in my day”. I Took screen shots of everything and saved emails and have multiple meetings with HR which my attorney will be in attendance for. If I go down because this c u next Tuesday is trying to fire me because simply because she doesn’t like me ( which I have an abundance of proof of) , they will all be dragged with me. I suggest if you’re facing any sort of BS from your supervisor or manager you do the same, enough of this company treating their members and employees this way. It’s easy to call your states labor and workforce office and look up laws under the DOL. regardless if you work remote UHG, Optum, Well med and who ever else they bought out still need to adhere to local and national laws and can not discriminate against you because of your age, gender, race, disability or political stance. Build a case and take these id--ts down in the sinking ship with you.

Nice that you'll have the momentum to do this being handicapped and mixed. I've been watching white people get tossed out for brown (there's that 70/30 offshore thing again) and there's not a thing we can do about it. If you're white and in the US, you're at the top of the hit list. Best of luck!

I’m enjoying reading this post because the company goes and hires all these offshore foreigners at the cost of American jobs and now finds a new hidden cost! My job was offshored, my mgmt discriminated against me because I have Latin descent, guess I wasn’t Indian enough, but yes I did resent my colleagues getting preferential treatment. Now it’s happening on a wide scale and their vocationally trained offshore staff is feeling persecuted by the onshore staff and causing them employee relations issues, I love it! Duck U Optum!!

I made sure my manager and team were aware of my protected status, and I did file a complaint with HR. Ultimately got laid off (blessing!) but got 11 weeks severance whereas others got significantly less .

Make sure you file a report with EOE as well. I believe there is a time limit on how long after you can report an incident to EOE. As for the HR conversations make sure you're actually speaking to HR and not people team employee relations they will not handle your concerns seriously. Good on you for hiring a lawyer it will help. Best of luck

Well what’s interesting this has been happening for years and even though HR knows they have white on black discrimination, they do nothing and guess what the manager who clearly was and is targeting skin color is still there. Even when the director was informed of this person endeavor to discriminate, guess what nothing was done by anyone. They the white manager, white director, white VP are all complicit. The whole team could see they were discriminating. That’s what UHG /Optum is all about.

@whatever
Regardless of the reason you’re there to work not deal with people that still have a high school mentality with a boomer attitude.
If they don’t like you as an employee they are the ones that need to leave not try to fear monger others into not reporting to HR or make the work and interactions so unbearable they’re hoping people will quit.

Weird, i want to say i know who you’re talking about but all the Optum supervisors have that same attitude

Had a meeting with HR about it yesterday actually crazy because I thought I was in the wrong somehow and needed to change so this just confirms it is a leadership issue

Also I doubt that HR anon cares

Hello friend.
I work in HR please don’t feel bad about your leadership team being less than supportive and professional. My calendar has had an uptick of back to back meetings because employees are being discriminated against by their colleagues. We take it seriously and want to produce the most friendly professional environment where you enjoy working. Good luck on your endeavors. We face the same challenges as you believe it or not.
