Travel chaos as FAA orders ground stops for two Dallas airports over phone issue:

Dallas’ two major airports were thrown into chaos Friday afternoon when the Federal Aviation Administration issued ground stop orders after controllers “lost all radar and phone communications,” according to officials and reports.

Dallas Love Field and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport were both under a ground stop and a ground delay for several hours after communications equipment malfunctions popped up just after 4 p.m. local time, according to the FAA.

Love Field experienced on-and-off ground stops which were finally lifted for good just prior to DFW getting the all-clear later Friday night, FAA data showed.

“The FAA is slowing flights at Dallas Love Field and Dallas-Forth Worth International Airport due to a reported local telephone company equipment issue that does not involve FAA equipment,” the flight safety agency said.

AT&T is the primary telephone and telecommunications company providing service to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), including its complimentary Wi-Fi. The partnership between DFW Airport and AT&T involves providing a comprehensive wireless platform (CWP) to enhance connectivity and critical infrastructure for the airport.

'Gotta love these analog circuits that keep the planes flying.'

Was it a PRI or ISDN circuit that got cut???

It was not AT&T. FWIW: The original article cited has been edited to remove ANY mention of AT&T.

Additionally, the FAA has reported that the telecomm in question is actually Frontier.

“Yesterday’s disruption was caused by multiple failures of the TDMI data telecommunications service provided by Frontier — a local telecommunications company,” the FAA said in a statement to The Dallas Morning News.

Welcome to the new market-based focus. Clearly the customers will have to determine whether their travel expectations align to the new culture.

I think more outsourcing should fix all of our issues.

Given what is happening today 9/20/25 in Europe this may not have been an accident. From BBC: Cyber-attack causes delays at Heathrow and other European airports. Granted it’s a different and much less dangerous problem, but the coincidence shouldn’t be ignored. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3drpgv33pxo

Remember we are not here to improve our service but accept the decisions the suits believe will increase EPS.

I heard something like “our customers accept our outages when we send them five dollars from the att guarantee”

I hope noone was hurt from what is now becoming routine with this employer.

Let the "market-based" network performance wash over you. Customers need to come to terms with the new reality, which is the global least common denominator of network quality. Third-world workers are managing the kind of network that is acceptable in the third-world.

A telecommunication outage caused Federal Aviation Administration air traffic controllers in Dallas to lose radar and some communications Friday afternoon, leading to flights being stopped at the area’s airports.

“The FAA is slowing flights at Dallas Love Field and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport due to a reported local telephone company equipment issue,” the FAA said in a statement. “The FAA is working with the telephone company to determine the cause.”

Air traffic controllers rely on telecommunications lines from local phone companies to connect their facilities, including the airport towers and the Terminal Radar Approach Control, which handles flights arriving or departing airports.
