No ME Day for Me - Exhausted and Burnt Out

I've now scheduled my ME day three times, and each time something comes up. Today was the third attempt, and I've been told I need to provide information to my manager by noon. Every time I try to take this day, I'm told there's something due or overdue, and because we’re so short-staffed, I need to step up. I’m just exhausted.

On top of this, my boss has already said I need to start coming into the office three days a week before November 1st. They’ve also questioned why I haven't done any charity work this year, saying it could affect my performance review and that I should try to schedule something. I’m working seven days a week, and yet it still doesn’t feel like enough. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep up.

HP has really turned into one of the worst places to work. It feels like nothing more than a sweatshop. I am told, no salary increases and no bonuses this year and that I should be happy to have a job considering the job market. I am just tired and ranting and I am sure no one cares especially here.

Yep, I was right there with you. Luckily I had been planning my exit for a while so I had a little savings and quit at the end of August. Things are tight financially, but I feel like it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. When I first started at HP it was a nice place to work, but the company has been overtaken by vicious greedy corporate sociopaths.

No ME day for me. I just marked it on my calendar and worked the entire day. This is not the time to take off work with so much due in the 4Q25. This was the dumpiest thing putting a ME in 4Q.

My entire team has been asked to share their ME days with everyone. However, leadership, particularly the entirety of EO, needs to recognize that meeting business expectations make having ME days simply not realistic.

We're exhausted. The team has been consistently working 6 to 7 days a week, and now we're also being asked to return to the office. Meanwhile, my team keeps asking when we’ll get additional support, and all I can tell them is that we're still waiting on clearance from EN.

This level of stress is not sustainable. I’m also being asked whether our team will log any charity hours. The answer is no, and frankly, any extra time we do have, I’m encouraging them to spend with their families to avoid as that time is now considered a rare luxury.

Something needs to change. The current pace and lack of resources are not manageable long-term.

I'm in the same boat. I marked my ME last week and was immediately flooded with calls and emails, so much so that my husband told me to just respond to a few and let the rest go.

When you work in Enterprise Operations, it's almost like you've signed up for a job with no real work-life balance. I really appreciated the earlier comment comparing it to working in the ER, it honestly feels that way sometimes. Especially when a request comes in from Ernest or one of his direct reports, if you don't respond immediately, it’s like you're suddenly on the critical list.

I would love for someone to say, Ernest this is not an ER and see how long your career last. I am sure he will remind you that you self selected for this nightmare.

@OP what could be so important that you cannot take one day off? That is insane and I am sorry to hear your circumstance. You'd think you work in the ER and people's lives depend on your reports.
Get Real.
