Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Let’s sc--w over experienced and older employees

I was laid off a couple weeks ago. I can still login because of my 60 days. It is a kick in the nuts to see they have already onboarded several consultants to cover our work and then see postings go out for more junior roles on my old team.

It su-ks to be at my age because it is clear they are going after us. They don’t want to pay us what we are worth anymore. Let’s hire inexperienced talent now so we don’t have to pay them.

I’ve said it before and got a lot of hate for it. But the “experience” people brag about isn’t valued it’s looked at as “part of the problem” now. I hear this over and over again with employees in the 10 year + category - but new employees/ consultants / executives don’t value the “experience” - they truly see that category as the problem.

Cause here’s the thing, yes some of your replacements are younger. But a lot aren’t. Many are career professionals with different/ other experiences from more banks / tech companies. That’s what USAA values right now.

@ft Big 3 P&C running analytics. I have seen familiar faces from my days at USAA. We've all talked about the real executive leadership we experience now. It is so refreshing to execute to real strategies. There is vision and direction.

@eh+1k5f1r8jd, which company or industry did you go to? Have been struggling to find remote roles

The horrible thing I just noticed is they have already reposted my role. I think they are attacking remote too. My reviews have been solid. Our director didn’t even have a say.

@eh USAA landed in the toilet when Wayne was in charge. Now, the flush button has been activated and the company is in the first go-round the toilet bowl! A couple of more trips around the toilet bowl and it will be where it should be.

I was hired away two months ago. I tried to negotiate a raise once those interviews started. DENIED. But magically, they 'found' money when I submitted my two weeks. They wanted my offer letter to at least match it. Too late. Now, my ED texts me once a week to understand what processes and work products need to be submitted for planning. Told her I charge $150/hour for side consulting. She has my peers reaching out now for that info. NOPE! You had a chance when you mistakenly thought you had leverage. I'm over 50, and there are respectable companies out there willing to pay for talent out there, better insurance, and REMOTE. USAA has talent leakage for those that have 10-15 years experience. Competitors are grabbing it with the 'secret sauce'.

Agreed it’s pretty disgusting. I know it’s corporate America, but I thought USAA was better than that. My mistake for thinking that.

Loyalty is a word USAA honors.
You know how many people could’ve jumped ship in 2019 when the OCC slammed a sledgehammer on the bank? They stayed because of loyalty to the company, only to get tossed to the side the last 2 years and replaced with 3rd party contractors who have no clue what in the he-l they’re doing, which is 1 of the top reasons the OCC issued another consent order late last year.

@OP it’s just business and happens all around the world. Why pay experienced people more when they can hire cheaper juniors. Remember, we were those junior cheap workers. I have no hard feelings because I never treated this company as my family or had any love for it. I know it su-ks, but it’s just business my friend
