Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Is RTO on the table?

Since it's pretty obvious they want to continue reducing headcount, would they pull the trigger to force returning to the office? I imagine a lot of people would say 'no thanks' and leave, and others would leave simply due to living too far from any office location. It would save them a ton on severance, but would they take the risk of losing people they actually want to keep?

@h5 Unfortunately, some managers just won't let go of that office space

Oracle discovered that office space costs a lot of money, and you can save a lot by just cancelling that, and ofc they did.
Entire floors became empty after COVID-19 in some offices and there is a reason companies like WeWork went bankrupt.

The whole RTO is a pile of BS for a massive company like Oracle. Who cares where I sit if my team is distributed around the world. Even if I went to an office in my state, there wouldn't be single person from my org there. And forcing people to relocate to another state doesn't make sense either unless 100% of the people on the team do so. That's nonsense.

I hired on as a remote worker decades before covid closed the offfices.

For smaller companies with one office, yeah maybe it makes sense...but for the leading tech companies is just posturing.

Working from home has been proven effective and solves numerous social and environmental problems. This fantasy of improved collaboration is just smoke and mirrors.

@e8 This is obviously a page for complaining, if you are going to judge ppl for expressing their desires, then you are in the wrong page.

@bk And to think that's all pushed by literally one guy because he's so into the office

Loads of young people have trouble finding jobs and would love an opportunity to go to work. Yes in an office.

If you want to spend time with your cat, stay home but give your job to someone who appreciates it

That's MILLIONS of youth of our the next generation actually willing to go. to. work.

Keep complaining though because "they" know this and will replace you.

NetSuite Spain here. We were just sent this message

In-Person Office Expectations
Employees are required to work from the office at least the minimum number of days specified in their approved WFH agreements. This requirement is already in effect and applies to all current agreements.
When these agreements come up for renewal, they will be updated to reflect our new in-office attendance minimums as follows:
People who collaborate consistently with team members in the Barcelona or Madrid hub are required to be in the office at least 3 days per week. Most people in our organization will fit into this category.
Campus Hires need to be in the office 4 days per week during their first year.
In order to ensure a great onboarding experience and to support new Campus Hires, a combination of the manager and team need to be in the office 4 days per week during a NetSuite Campus Hire’s first year. The team manager will be responsible for organizing office attendance during that period.
Everyone else in our organization in the Barcelona or Madrid hubs is required to come into the office a minimum of 1 day per week. This is an exceptional situation and will require GVP approval.

All Oracle owned property will go on the market for either sale or lease. This has been shared with multiple LOBs. The data centers are bursting with build now. All L wants is Nashville. Peace and Love.

Let's be real. RTO isn't about collaboration. It's a convenient excuse to thin the org count. Companies want to shed staff without the bad press of a massive layoff. It's a quiet, effective way to get people to quit on their own.

Remember all those people who were "always on" when working from home? They were super productive, working weird hours just to show they were valuable. Now, returning to the office has changed the game. You're a fool if you're still working late. The company isn't going to give you a medal for it. You have excuses of traffic now.

There's a bunch of people who think showing up late and "looking busy" is a substitute for real work. Especially those H1B folks who love to brag about their long hours. It's all for show. The best employees get results, whether they're in the office or on their couch. Don't fall for the trap.

LE's son told his companies (Skydance/Paramount) to RTO 2 weeks ago. So I'd say its definitely on the table. They have better leverage to force this when RSU prices are up, too.

A lot of the formerly occupied office space in campuses like SCA and BRM has been leased out.

Absolutely, but they will say if you live under 30 miles within an office you will have to come in.

Its a well know that company do this to reduce headcount!

@a3 Lucky you! Who lives far away from the office won't be force to come to the office

RTO was implemented in Morocco (O MADC) long time ago, at the beginning of this year

RTO started in Spain so they can keep the office space

It goes both ways. I know people who only stayed with Oracle because they let them stay remote only. Meaning that these people will probably 100% quit if they implement RTO, so it is a mixed bag of reducing headcount and losing skilled people you want to keep.
