Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Q for Oldtimers

A question for people who've been working for Oracle for more than 10 years.

I wanted to see if you can quantify how much quality of employment at Oracle deteriorated over last 10 years.

10%, 50%, 90% worse than 10 years ago.

Pick your number and see if you can tell us why you feel that way.

@s5 I have 10 OCI certifications, but nobody hired OCI people when I was looking for a new job. Now I work with Azure instead.
I cannot say because it is confidential, but I know which big customers are using OCI and I doubt they will be hiring me as they are more likely to do their own layoffs.

You have every chance at Oracle to improve your skillsets. FREE TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION. I've been here for 15 years. I've stayed current. I participate. I connect. Other companies pay big money for Oracle certified candidates.

I don't see it worse now compared to what it used to be 10 years ago. For me, it improved by 20% - especially the opportunity to learn and grow. I'm not saying everything is great for sure. Still, this is the best place I ever worked at and I feel it looks great on my CV. It's a company focused on making money, right. From a cruel shareholder's perspective, I understand that there is nothing like a family approach. I see it like an aquarium - feed the fish but if you no longer wish to watch the neon tetras, throw them out regardless how much they shine. I'd recommend not to bet on company-specific knowledge that is useless if you are laid off one day. Enjoy the team and opportunities when you can. But don't fall into the trap of one-sided love.

Hard to quantify, but I would say the degree of fecklessness has increased by at least 25-50%.
