Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Why so many “managers”

Based on the last round of layoffs, it seems they want to be a company of directors and managers only with minimal individual contributors. It’s like a manager has one report and reports to another manager who reports to a director… Individual Contributors move the needle and layers of managers slow progress. D-mb. Keep plugging fake numbers in your value delivery.

There's no additional pay for taking a lead role that has the same responsibilities as a manager. Fu-k that idea.

You hit the nail on the head. Way too many managers running around busy but no real value. Do away with that and assign a team lead with some individual contributors. You will see more innovation, contributions, and culture improvements. The stuffy layers of directors and managers is old thinking…. The managers at CVE don’t train employees - they leave that to their peers. They don’t report metrics - they send an email to their team to do it. They don’t do work - they forward it to someone else. They play politics all day every day trying to justify their job.
